Read what parents are saying about St. John Vianney Regional High SchoolNot happy with one teacher there. He does NOT teach, gives the students a work sheet, tells the students to go into groups and google the answers. Sits in front of his computer and does not speak or teach the entire class room time. He treats his class like a study hall.
Posted by a parent on 10/1/2022The staff and the teacher are wonderful. They helped provide two generations in my family with a great education and an amazing HS experience.
Posted by a community member on 6/23/2016As an alumni, I can confidently say SJV prepared me well for what the world had to offer. It is a really special place where much of the administration and teachers really care about your success and want to guide you to where you want to be. They are always looking to grow and give more students more opportunities, and I always appreciated that. I was challenged and pushed to be the very best I can be, and was very ready for college when it came. The only negatives I have to say are the fact that when I was there, many of the students were not especially open-minded, and could be very judgmental of anyone who differed from them. The school, while it offers many opportunities for students, could also have a lot more. They really do work hard, but public schools are bigger and better funded and of course are bound to have literally everything (though SJV really does have quite a lot).Overall, my experience at SJV was a great one, and I thoroughly enjoyed my high school experience. I met a lot of wonderful people, was challenged academically and as a person, and ultimately, believe I left a better person because of it. I was never a number. The school wanted me to succeed and was proud of my accomplishments. It really is a unique place and I would definitely go back if I had to do it all again.
Posted by a community member on 8/22/2015My son graduated in june and I have a lot of useful information for parents considering sending their child here. It should be made clear that many of these reviews are fraudulent. Last year my son showed me an email from the school's P.R./Marketing director where she asked students to post positive reviews on this website as to overshadow some of the bad ones. This is unacceptable and morally wrong to ask students to do this. I am also disappointed with the curriculum here. It seems simple compared to other schools in the area (both public and private). My son rarely came home with homework and when he did, it would usually take him less time than his brother who was in the eighth grade (now in the 9th at CBA). The laptops that the school gives out are a waste of time and money. My son had so many problems with his laptop that he just stopped using it. I can say with great confidence that the laptops impair learning rather than enhance it. Now in college, my son has said that SJV did not prepare him properly. After investing $45,000 over four years in his education, it is infuriating to hear this as a parent. *Also the assistant dean, David Tuschmann, is very unprofessional.
Posted by a parent on 9/25/2014SJV was a wonderful High School experience for my son. The school not only fosters academic excellence but community service. Students learn to be part of the community as well as give back to the community. There was so much for him to do at school through clubs, sports and academics creating strong bonds and life long friendships. Faculty and staff also provided a strong and nurturing environment for learning and success. Because of SJV's motto of Knowledge, Commitment and Involvement I feel that he has a strong foundation for a successful future .

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageFirst of all their enrollment is so low (many kids drop out after joining for one year). So kids make friends for a year & then there is a completely different class next year with 90% new students. Second, most of the kids in the school from 2nd grade to 8th grade are students of staff members (who work as teachers in the school), and their class average is 5-6 kids in each grade (so do the math – most of those are kids of faculty). The school is run completely by the vice principal because the principal is a veteran who owns the school & at this time is not involved with anything. There are no extra-curricular activities apart from a track team which literally uses the side walk at the front of the building to train kids. The vice principal claimed when we joined the school that we teach two other languages, Spanish & Mandarin to all kids. Not even once in two years my son learnt both languages at the same time. It was either spanish or mandarin & sometimes none because if their mandarin or spanish teacher goes on leave, then they have no back-ups. They will teach Spanish, then randomly start Mandarin & keep on switching based on teacher’s availabilities. Here is when it all fell apart for us - We went on a one week trip and I informed the teachers in advance that we were going on vacation & when my son went back to school, they took 3 exams on the first day he was back in school. They are so incourateous that not only did they try to teach one week worth of material to my son in one day, but then also took 3 exams the same day. This is fundamentally wrong & truly messed up. Talk about giving your child mental stress in school. When I reached out to the teachers & Vice principal, they kept on saying – “oh look at his scores, he did well”. My whole feedback was that you should have sent the study guides home so I could prepare my son for the tests. When I talked directly to the vice principal, she cut me off while I was explaining the situation, was completely defensive & absolutely rude on the call and SHE HUNG UP ON ME. The vice principal had no interest in listening to me, or taking any feedback. Don’t waste your money & don’t sacrifice your child’s mental state by sending them to this school. FYI - Most other reviews on websites are given by staff members whose kids go to this school. Teachers are not good either.Parent Review11mo ago - Rock Brook School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school does not even hire teachers that are special ed certified. Their postings on ideed indicate that you may be "interested" in pursuing a certificate in special ed to apply. Really? Work hands-on with students without being certified. This is why this school is garbage and does not actually help any child make progress and succeed. How awful. They charge the sending district a fortune and a half and won't even hire certified teachers so that they could pay them less. DisGusTing!!!Parent Review8mo ago - St Anthony School
