Meadowbrook Elementary School

Nobody moves to Old Tappan NJ because of the beaches. As almost all parents we invested a lot of money in a house because people told us the TBD was good. But the school has surprised us. They are not good as people told us. THEY ARE EXCELLENT. It is making worth every penny that we invested to be closed to this school. They really care of children. They understand children. I feel they even help us to raise our children. It is VERY organized. The principal is amazing. The teachers could not be better. My son who used to hate school, now he LOVES going to the school. Their academic program is very good. My son had challenges to adapt on the first days, they provided us ALL psychological support. We are really impressed with this school. This school is amazing.

I would strongly caution parents of children with special needs. Despite clear needs, there has been little meaningful progress. Core goals like communication and responding to name remain inconsistent months into the program, yet reporting suggests progress without clear data.Special education leadership lacks transparency and accountability. Requests for information are often delayed or deflected, and there is a clear gap between what’s written in the IEP and what is actually implemented.The calendar and daily schedule are also difficult for working families. Frequent half days, limited hours, and early pickup times are out of sync with surrounding districts and create unnecessary strain.In my experience, the district also lacks diversity across students, staff, and leadership, which is noticeable.If your child needs structured, intensive support, this district is not equipped to provide it. I would not recommend moving here unless you plan to pursue private school options.

St John's Academy is an amazing, faith driven school. The interim principal is FANTASTIC. She has faced a number of challenges thrown at both her and the school with such poise and respect. She has truly made St John's a school that is safe, fun, and full of love. The teachers are well educated and treat the parents and students with the upmost respect. I know from personal experience how great this school is. It wouldn't be half the school it is without the leadership of the interim principal and the amazing faculty and staff. We love St John's and recommend it to anyone and everyone!

Wonderful school for intellectually curious children. Low student:teacher ratios, sub-specialty teachers for dedicated subjects starting in Pre-K. Most importantly the children love going to school!
