Read what parents are saying about Smithville Elementary SchoolThis is an amazing school. Currently, the teachers and very supportive and kind. Almost two times every month, the school has some sort of family-bingo night, or another. My kids woke up happy to go there everyday. I appreciate the teachers communication skills and everything is emailed out to you days or weeks in advance.
Posted by a parent on 3/16/2024I had 2 daughters attend this school during a custody issue. They were stuck in this district for about 3 years. I watched both of my daughters, who had been student of the month multiple times in their previous School go from student of the month to tutoring and needing summer school. The school was bad. No Genesis with no access to grades for all parents. When I question her tests they told me they couldn't give me copies of her test the best they could do is give me a blank test and she could retake it at home. I was not on the phone list for years until I talked to the superintendent at which point someone in the school stated they didn't know how to put two adults on the list, so only one parent was being contacted for the entire school. I had a teacher have a disciplinary issue with my child and when I tried to find out what happened she lied to me and minimized it. I had to go to the vice principal to get a written report that she had filed but refused to share with me. One day I was late to pick up my children. Instead of the bus taking them back to the school they left my second grader at the bus stop with no adult present. They had to ask a neighbor for help. I remember one time I asked for a parent teacher conference at parent-teacher conference time. The teacher emailed me back and said my daughter was doing great and I did not need to come. I informed her that I just wanted my children to know that I'm involved and I will come to all these events. When I showed up the guidance counselor was there and informed me that my daughter was having an issue and needed counseling. I was stunned considering the teacher told me everything was great and I didn't need to show up. I could go on and on and on about the issues I had with the school. My children went in A and student of the month and came out way behind. It's taken 3 years in a new school to get them back up to A's and B's and back up to student of the month. Don't send your children to this school.
Posted by a parent on 12/5/2022We would rate our experience at Smithville School as very good, or. "4.5 out of 5 stars". When we have questions, we ask them. If we are concerned about something, we investigate. The teachers are caring and compassionate, and nurturing. We haven't had a single complaint, and our son loves his school and teachers.
Posted by a parent on 5/30/2020We moved to this area when my daughter was in 1st grade and she attended Smithville for all her elementary years. The staff is very caring and top notch. We had one "clunker" teacher in 4th grade who has since retired! But all the rest of years especially the 6th grade had dedicated, professional teachers.
Posted by a parent on 7/25/2014We recently moved from Galloway, NJ to Bonita Springs, FL. While the weather here can't be beat, the schools sure can! My children and family were spoiled by the all-around excellence of Smithville School! All administrators and teachers are bright, loving, fun - people parents feel great about entrusting their children to! My boys learned to love learning here! Despite the school's size, it seemed most teachers and administrators knew all of the students by name - how do they do it? The driving force is pure love of kids and teaching! Shame on you governor Chris Christie ~ may your political career shrivel like what you're trying to do to the NJ public schools teachers' spirits and pocketbooks.
