Read what parents are saying about Johnnie L. Cochran Junior Academy Elementary SchoolWorst experience EVER!!! I have never had so many problems with a school. I have never heard so many "I can't", "we don't have time for that”. Never in my life had I experienced such frustrating school staff. The staff including the principal are SO UNPROGESSIONAL. I have been looking for places to move so my child does not have to suffer thru another year at this school.
Posted by a parent on 12/7/2015My child is currently in the 4th grade at Johnnie L Cochran Jr. Academy. My child has attended this school since being in kindergarten. The first two years I raved about this school. However the last three years I'm sad to admit that I cannot. First I don't think that the principal is kept abreast on what's going on in the classroom. I fought to keep my child in this school due to my child having a interest in the law. The legal studies class is a joke. The children are taught social studies not legal studies. You would think the children would know the ins and outs of the courtroom having legal studies for four years. Instead they watch movies every week. Keep in mind they only have legal studies once a week. Last year I was so upset my child saw 12 Years of Slave in the 3rd grade. This was no way deemed appropriate for a 8/9 year old. The principal doesn't have a clue as to what's going on. Mr. Jacobs is very hard to approach.
Posted by a parent on 3/17/2015My son is in the 5th grade now which is the last year one can attend to Johnnie Cochran School. It is an excellent school. It's hard to part ways when this school has strive academic excellence. It also molded the kids into a very good students. I can't say nothing but all good words about this school. Excellent teachers, principal and administrator.

Posted by a parent on 8/13/2013MY SON HAS BEEN APART OF THE COCHRAN FAMILY SINCE FIRST GRADE AND WILL BE STARTING THE FOURTH GRADE IN THE FALL OF 2011. THE TEACHERS ARE GREAT AS WELL AS THE AFTERSCHOOL STAFF. THERE IS NO BULLYING AND KIDS HAVE A PLACE WHERE THEY CAN FOCUS ON SCHOOL WORK AND BUILD FRIENDSHIPS AS WELL. IT SADDENS ME THAT MY DAUGHTER WHO WILL BE ATTENDING KINDERGARTEN THIS YEAR WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND DUE TO HAVING TO ATTEND HER RESIDENT ARE SCHOOL. I READ THE REPORTS ON THE SCHOOL SHE WILL BE ATTENDING AND I MUST SAY I WILL BE FIGHTING TO GET HER IN JOHNNIE COCHRAN WITH HER BROTHER BECAUSE HE HAS LEARNED ALOT AND IS CONTINUING TO LEARN EACH DAY. ALTHOUGH THE PREVIOUS PRINCIPLE MOVED ON TO ANOTHER GREAT POSITION YOU CAN'T TELL THAT THE NEW PRINCIPLE HAS MISSED A BEAT BECAUSE ITS STILL ORDER AS USUAL IN THE SCHOOL. THIS IS A GREAT SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBest school to start your child at. It goes from 3K - Kindergarten. I wanted my child to start school in an environment that’s suitable for her and easy for her to adapt to and she has loved going here from the beginning. Now she’s graduating from Kindergarten this year moving up to another school. This was the perfect starting point. The neighborhood is safe as well. I love the staff at wahlstrom. The security guard does a wonderful job at keeping the kids safe and making sure everyone is good. If you’re nervous about getting your young one into a safe trustworthy school environment, enroll them into Wahlstrom. You’ll love it here and so will your little ones.Parent Review2mo ago - Edward T. Bowser Sr Elementary School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWORST School I've ever encountered in my life. There was absolutely no Student Activities no Sports no music no plays no parent-teacher meeting they just lock the kids up in the school and keep the parents totally separate from what's going on inside the school. You have no idea what student is Reading Writing or learning in the school kids can just walk home with no supervision or care. Not to mention the constant fights and police activity going on right next door at the middle school so now you have to worry about the environment your child is about to go into from elementary school. Avoid the school at all costsOther Review10mo ago - Shelia Y. Oliver Academy

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI previously went to this school, and I have to say, I loved it. Everyone, from the security guards to the janitors, felt like family. I was so sad to let this school go, and I would 100% have stayed if they had a middle school and a high school course. The only complaint I ever had was with a teacher. She was a real pain to everyone, and was biased when I came to teaching. The principal, who grew to be an adult friend while I attended there, helped us sort it out, and intervened when the teacher tried to do anything she shouldn't have done. I miss carver, but if you were to send your kids here, they would love it.Other Review2y ago - Whitney E. Houston Academy Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe have two sons that went to Linden Ave and loved every year. The teachers are all warm, caring and skilled educators. There is a strong sense of community and family involvement with the school. Even during the COVID pandemic when we had to go virtual the teachers and administration went above and beyond to make sure the students (and parents!) were not left to fend for themselves. We're so grateful to have had our kids attend such a great school!Parent Review1y ago
