As a current Sophomore at Palmyra High School, I think I can say with full confidence that this is an amazing school for support, community, and activities. I am a member of band (and all of its extras like jazz band), cross country, speech, quiz bowl, and more meaning I get to see much of the activities side of things. Our band is an amazing place to be; everyone is willing to work towards a common goal by helping others when we need to which has resulted in amazing results for a band of less than 40. While there will always be exceptions, I believe that most of my fellow students are great at supporting others within the school. Whether that be by helping with classes, talking through hard times, or anything else, you can always find someone who is there to help you. There has been some construction over the last couple of years which has expanded the school, adding new classrooms as more students join. All of the rooms and halls in the school are very well maintained which makes the school feel safe and cared for. One of my favorite parts, however, is the amazing teachers who are willing to work things out. From our hard working Spanish teacher, to our fun and caring History teachers, we have an amazing group of teachers who are all there to help you. With the somewhat small class sizes each class can be very personal. I always enjoy being able to chat with teachers (sometimes even staying after class for a little too long) about our lessons, our activities, or even just jokes about what we are going over. Our teachers are also willing to go above and beyond for our classes, often adding on to the basic information that is given. You can really tell that our teachers care about us students, and believe not only in giving knowledge, but the wisdom to use it. I have heard more than once from teachers "I don't just want to teach you what to think, I want to teach you how to think." It really shows in lessons sometimes, as discussions become student led sometimes. Instead of giving us the answer or telling us what something means a teacher might poke us in the right direction and let class discussion lead us to the point that needs to be made. The teachers aren't the only good people though, as the custodians, lunch line, office workers, and everyone else is great too! It is nice to catch up with some of the bus drivers when I see them, or to get help from the office because each person is so welcoming. PHS is definitely the right school for people like me.
