We have been so happy at Root, which has provided a great education and school family for our three children. We have one child who is gifted, another who is twice exceptional, and a third that is just happy to go with the flow. They have truly adapted and met each of them where they are at. The community is welcoming, and the administration is helpful and supportive of teachers. The teachers are all so dedicated and care about what they do. We feel fortunate to have found this school.

I can’t speak to the rest of the school but beware if your child is on special education. The administration treats the teachers like dogs. At the end of 23-24, the entire CCR and self-contained teams left and so far this year as of mid-October 2024, 4 of the 6 CCR and self-contained teachers have quit, so students will not be receiving the support they are legally required to receive. The admin will tell you it was the teachers, but that is not true. A new principal was just announced, so I hope she is able to turn it around, but be aware and ask questions if your child is in sped.

RUINED MY MENTAL HEALTH. Please don’t send ur kids here there so much drama and bullying. The teachers don’t even teach and ur forced to wear hijab. The boys were ALWAYS favored. They got to eat outside for lunch and we had to eat in. I transferred schools and now my mental health is so much better. DONT SEND YOUR KID HERE.

My wife and I were excited about enrolling our 3 year old and 1 year old at Follow the Child Montessori after moving nearby. The communication handled by the Director of Enrollment has been poor. The process for enrollment was going on a school tour where children are not allowed, followed by a visit with the children where they take the children to a separate room with a teacher to see how well they may adjust, followed by a head of school zoom interview. After all this was completed, We were initially told we would hear back by Mid-February. I had to reach out to the school by end of February to ask what the status was. March 9th, we received an email stating that there was space for both of our children. I signed the contract same day and asked for clarification on after school care and received a response 10 days later (March 19th) answering my after school care question. I was informed that I would get a call from the financial department, which never came. There was no further communication until March 23rd when the director reportedly called requesting a call back while I was at a conference followed by an email on March 24th am stating the contracts would be pulled and "wished [us] the best". The contract required two parent signature, and my wife had not signed. This should have been a quick issue to sort out via email and could have been done weeks prior. On my phone call with the Director, she was defensive and did not seem to understand that this communication could be better handled via email with direct messaging or scheduling phone calls for busy families. On the other hand, my interaction with the Montessori School of Raleigh has been much more streamlined, direct, and organized. Pricing structure is slightly less for Montessori School of Raleigh and more flexible for afterschool care if needed. If you are a busy professional, I would encourage you to look into other schools as this stress is not necessary for families with young children.
