I had three children who attended this school. They were all excellently prepared to attend college. One of my children thinks that some of the teachers at Eastern are much better teachers than those she has encountered in college. That child also thinks several of her high school classes were more challenging than the classes she took her first and second years in college. I came on to this site because I was reading elsewhere about a student in another school who had several things stolen from him during one school year. I think maybe one of my kids had one thing stolen at this school, and I'm unsure about that. Anyway, this was a nonissue for us. We felt like the students generally respect and leave each other alone. There are many honors and AP classes to take, and one of my children was able to get more than a year's worth of college credit through the AP courses she took. Yes, I wish there were smaller classes, more resources, and more teachers like the great teachers who are there, but nothing is perfect. I would say they should increase the number of counselors. The counselors are each responsible for too many people. Their workload is above the state average.

Horrid!! This place is not high school, it is Hell School! The teachers themselves seem to care about their students, at least most of those I have taken/am taking. I am a 17 year old who is behind in math due to disabilty. The math classes are filled with unfriendly students. The only reason people know my name is because I sing all the time including in class. The place is a train wreck. The teachers I have had did care about what I had to say about bullying and harassment, but there is not much they have been able to do without the approval of the admin which is made up of staff members that do nothing. I really wanna go to Southern but it is too far away. To tell the truth, only one of my so called friends even cares about me and she is mad at me because I said some things about her good for nothing friend that everybody hates. She is going to Southern due to out of control bullying and harassment. I don't fit in and really am most of the time alone. It is a mess and overall my advice is STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM HERE!!! - a 10th grader and student at Eastern who is a year behind due to learning issues

I went to Eastern and was continually challenged academically by my teachers on a personal level. In 10th grade, we were reading and deeply analyzing material that other high schools in the county didn't present to students until senior year. Academic competition was tough at Eastern and I feel that this is due, in large part, to its proximity to several leading research universities. The skills I gained at Eastern prepared me to thrive at UNC Chapel Hill, whence I recently graduated. I did, however, feel that Eastern over-prioritized athletics at the expense of the Fine Arts, subjects that teach critical thinking through visceral, hands-on problem solving. These skills are absolutely essential in any scholarly pursuit and need to receive the funding and attention from administration and guidance that they deserve.

As far as high schools in Alamance county go, Eastern is going to be one of your best bets. It is probably one of, if not the most safe, clean, and academic high schools in the county. I graduated in 2012 and had a great experience all four years. The community of the school and town make it a great place for any student to learn. Obviously the negative responses to the school were given by ignorant, uneducated students/parents. Eastern is not a bad school. Every student will have a different high school experience regardless of where they go. You get out of high school what you put in. If you study, work hard, and get involved, you are sure to have a good experience. Eastern has a lot of caring staff and administration, whether some people think so or not. It's a good high school and should be given the credit it deserves.

I recently graduated and found this school to be a great learning environment. All of my teachers were very helpful, and as an AP and Honor student I was able to achieve every goal I had personally set. I feel that this school does prioritize the athletes and honors students, scholarships will hardly be awarded to members of this school, and that the CP kids fall behind. I was in the top 20 of my class and never recognized for my achievements. Personal achievement goes a long way at this school, and the student must have desire to succeed. Overall though I was happy with the education that I recieved.
