Posted by a parent on 5/26/2023I see that this school and the administration are garbage. The good staff gets meddled, the kids always in trouble, and it is a big mess. I'm glad my kids no longer go here.

Robeson County Piblic School Systems are a huge failure to these children and the community as a whole! These schools are truly creating a school to prison pipeline!
Posted by a parent on 6/11/2018If parents are complaining about this school in 2016, let me tell you it was a disaster way back in 1979, when I started seventh grade there. Gangs? Yep! Bullies? Yep! Overwhelmed teachers and too many problem students? Yep! I can't believe this bad-to-middling middle school is still around! Luckily for me, I only attended seventh, eighth, and ninth grades there and then moved to Virginia. I probably cried after school the entire time I attended Lumberton Jr. High.
Posted by a community member on 10/14/2016There is very little learning going on at this school. There are teachers who do nothing all day and a principal who does nothing about it. The teachers who try and work hard have no administrative support. There are gangs, drugs, and violence that are ignored....much like the lack of teaching is ignored. I have contacted teachers, the principal, even the school board about these problems and no one seems to care to try and make any changes or improvements. I cannot even get a call or email returned. The worst school in the worst area.

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy Granddaddy attended this school a great many years ago starting around roughly 1941 or so as well as his wife, my Grandmother following him thru about 1950 or so for Kindergarten thru 8th grade. Some years later my Aunt & My Mother also attended this school roughly around 1972 and 1977 respectively for Kindergarten thru 6th grade. I also attended this school as a young child from Kindergarten thru 4th Grade myself. Although that has been several years ago now, ( roughly 21 years ago when I started Kindergarten.), it was a very good school then and has become somewhat of a staple as a Family Elementary school for children in my family. So when it became time for my oldest child to embark on his journey through his first year of school, there wasn't a second moments thought to where he would go for Elementary School. As of right now I'm glad I stuck with my decision to send him to Elementary school where his Daddy, Grandmother, Great GrandDaddy, & Great Grandmother went to school at. My family has obviously grew with this school a great number of years and as of right now we are on our 4th Generation of family attending Janie C. Hargrave. With only 210 students for the 2014-2015 School year, there is a very reasonable student to teacher ratio. The ratio in my son's class is 7:1 students to teachers. The EOG test scores do leave something to be desired in the higher grades of the school but I believe firm parenting and a good parent -teacher working relationship can work through that. Very proud to say I started my journey through my school years here and I am exceptionally proud to be able to send my children to the same school so much of their family has attended over the years. Here's to hoping for a better future for all our children and too hoping that they get opportunities and offers to do things we never thought or dreamed of throughout their school lives. It also helps the teachers to be more involved with students at every grade level. We have a school that is moving rapidly toward 21st Century skills which are necessary for today's child. We have excellent teachers, assistants, and staff who are led by an excellent administrator. (bias, I know)Teacher Review10y ago
