Kernodle Middle School

Excellent experience from K through 5th grade.The building was still the original from the early sixties, but the engagement of the teachers and the outstanding principal Dr.Bergman( who greeted every morning all kids by their name, all 600 plus of them!), made up plenty for the deficits in the building. This school building is currently under reconstruction and promises to emerge better suited for it's pupils in the near future.The school's teachers established discipline, guided the dress code, corrected interruptive behaviour. Outstanding teachers were Mrs Francisco in reading and grammar, Mr. B in math, and the teacher for the academically gifted, Mr.Harmon.

To any educators considering a position here: please proceed with extreme caution. The principal is characterized by a profound lack of respect and professional courtesy toward staff, even basic common decency is lacking. Beyond the condescending communication style of the principal, there is a systemic failure to address critical issues, including teacher safety and reports of physical violence- having a history of blaming a teacher after they were harmed by a student. Despite public messaging about kindness, the internal reality is an environment where staff feel disregarded and unsafe. As both an educator and a parent, I could not recommend this school for anyone.

My daughter has attended Greensboro Montessori School for the past three years. When we transferred from Raleigh Montessori School, I expected a similar Montessori experience and educational standard. Unfortunately, over the last three years, I have watched not only my child’s education decline, but many of her peers’ as well.In 2026 alone, I learned that six students from her class are leaving the school. I cannot pinpoint exactly where things went wrong, but from my perspective, there seems to be too much unstructured free choice, excessive free time, and very little accountability toward instructed academic work.I have always loved the Montessori philosophy and approach to learning, but I no longer believe this school is implementing it effectively.Recently, her teachers recommended that we have my daughter evaluated. During that evaluation, we learned that her math and reading skills were two grade levels behind. Hearing this was absolutely heartbreaking after paying nearly $25,000 a year for her education. I feel shattered.Not only is my daughter academically behind, but she also lacks foundational math problem-solving skills and reading comprehension skills. The evaluators told us she does not have ADHD or ADD, but instead may not have been placed in a structured, supportive learning environment with enough guidance.That leaves me asking: what are the children doing all day? Where has our time, trust, and money gone? Those are questions I still cannot fully answer.I also want to acknowledge the positives. The staff and teachers have always been kind, warm, and caring toward both me and my daughter. I do not necessarily believe the teachers themselves are at fault. I believe the issue may lie more in the school’s interpretation of the freedom-based learning model.I will also say that highly self-motivated, naturally curious, and academically driven children may do very well here. There are students excelling and advancing because they are internally motivated learners. But in my opinion, a child at this school must be able to independently drive their own education in order to thrive.As for my daughter, she now has to repeat a grade and has been denied acceptance into five other schools because she is so academically behind. As a parent, that pain is indescribable.Greensboro Montessori School, I truly feel you failed my child.

My family has been so blessed to have found a Christian, Classical education for my kindergartner. We have been beyond impressed with the learning opportunities set forth for the children and the exposure their program brings. The children are offered electives (art, music, computer, library, PE), reading, writing, math, phonics, bible, playtime. The teachers and staff are loving, and have no problem loving on the children and making them feel they are special and worthy. I look forward to continuing to partnership with Caldwell and hopefully see my son graduate class of 2037 as an Eagle.

Greensboro Day School is a really special place, with amazing students, talented and dedicated teachers, and families who are incredibly supportive and engaged. There’s a strong sense of community here that you feel every day.The new Center for Student Life, Entrepreneurship & Innovation has been an exciting addition, giving students great spaces to connect and explore interests like business, the arts, design, robotics, metalworking, and woodworking. The new dining commons has also made a big difference. Now, lunch is genuinely good, and it’s become a great place for people to gather.There are also meaningful opportunities for students to take on leadership roles and have a real voice in the life of the school.
