They manage to teach the kids their lessons AND genuinely care about the students at the same time-which is almost unheard of from my experience with other schools. Posted by a parent on 3/23/2011Sherwood has always been a great school. The leadership there is excellent. One of the best after school programs in Gaston County also picks up at Sherwood , Carolina Galaxy. I'm sure you will be very impressed with Sherwood Elementary.

My grandson came home with second degree burns that we were never told about it, but had discovered the injury on our own. He was not sent to nurse, his teacher was not told and neither were we. 2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe teachers and administration have been wonderful during our transition to a new school. They have had events to engage the families and students. One of my children really struggled with his last school and couldn’t pass his end of grade testing. This year he has excelled in the classroom and is on track to pass his eog. The prior reviews may have been accurate but it is not the experience we have had. 2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe school does draw from low income areas of the district; therefore there isn’t as much parent involvement or support. Behavioral issues are an issue but the school is good at handling them so that other students are able to learn. The current Principal is great, and the staff seems to be well connected. It’s a very large school and considering that the school seems to run smoothly. They close after-school care 10 days before school not even thinking about how parents can get there from their jobs! I'm close to losing my job because we moved in the middle of the school year and my kids have to be Uber drove back and forth while they still have nerve to be asking me for money for school events. The staff is not helpful when you run late to get your child. They don't care that you're a single parent, the interim principal flat out refused to help me and my children and it's the last week of school! Ugh!
