Brookside Elementary School

We are trying desperately to leave the Oak Park school district. Since they allow so many kids from out of district in- class sizes are out of control. There is no personalized teaching as they just do not have the resources. They keep whatever staff they can find, even unqualified, so you get what you get. We moved out specifically to Oak Park for the schools and found out quickly that the entire district is in a steep decline. If your child needs any help at all this is not the school for you. The new principal likes to roll her eyes at parents or completely ignore them. She is not very warm or friendly and runs the school like she owns it. The academics are great if you have a very smart kid and it comes easy to them. There are no extra classes or honors type of classes. A lot of parents are pulling their children out and switching schools. It’s definitely not the stellar school that it once was.

This is my daughters first year at this school and i can say so far the worst year ever in Gaston County. They do not treat their kids with respect they are very disorganized they do not handle things in regards to the codes of conduct and they take matters into their own hands without notifying the parents. Being that my daughter has a disability I would think they would do their job to make sure she was accommodated and their lack of communication in getting things done have failed short and at this time I feel like the district failed her. Do not bring your children to this school.

I have two children at this school. Before attending Brookside my oldest went to a private school. I can say, without hesitation, that I feel the academics at Brookside are more rigorous than the private school. Both children are experiencing such academic growth. I am so happy to see them come home from school happy. The principal is friendly, concerned and dedicated. The teachers my children have had are amazing; kind and willing to go the extra mile! The only negative I can think of is a bit of bullying, but I am pretty sure you will find that anywhere. It is the prompt response by faculty and staff that I appreciate. Bullying has happened, but it was made clear that is not acceptable. Being a teacher myself, I can be very critical. Brookside is turning out to be a terrific choice for my children.

I have a 3rd grader at Brookside Elementary. It is a fablous school, with great teachers who work very hard with the kids. This is my daughters first year in public school and we found out that the private school she went to was behind! My daughter had to play catch up in the begininng but she did it with all the extra support and caring from her teacher!
