This review is solely for the Kindergarten grade at Bain Elementary. We were very excited for our child to start Kindergarten at Bain Elementary based on the local ratings; however, our experience was far from positive and, frankly, very stressful for both our child and us as parents.Our concerns began when our child's passion for learning deteriorated rapidly after joining Bain, and we could not understand why. It became apparent that the teachers were teaching to the test and requiring pupils to complete assessments regardless of their wellbeing at the time. As a parent, being told that your child was crying during a test and that the teacher insisted they could not stop and had to finish is an absurd practice—especially for children of such a young age—and shows how detached the teacher–pupil relationship has become.Instead of a positive, comforting learning environment, we saw negative reinforcement as the driving force, and our child was subjected to this. During a parent–teacher conference, which was requested because the school said they had “concerns,” the testing results were absolutely fine. However, the teacher continued to give backhanded compliments about our child, which we found odd and unsettling, and which explained why our previously happy child was suddenly so sad at school.The teacher mentioned several times that they had 21 pupils in the class, almost as if they felt overwhelmed, despite having two assistants. Whether stress was a factor, we cannot say, but our young children should not suffer as a result. As other reviewers have mentioned, it felt as though there was a concerted effort to pigeonhole our child into a learning intervention program and subject them to counseling—none of which was needed.Overall, it was an incredibly negative experience for our family, and quite sad, as this was the start of our child’s academic journey—one we hope they will forget.We ultimately made the decision to remove our child from Bain, and they have since flourished at another school.

Everything is cool and good here in this school

Charlotte Islamic Academy is a private school in Charlotte that claims to offer a quality education. While Quran and Arabic instruction are areas of strength, the quality of education in other academic subjects is very weak. The school is largely family-run, which affects fairness and accountability. Families with personal connections to the administration or those providing significant financial support appear to receive preferential treatment. There is little structure, consistent discipline, or accountability for student behavior. Student conduct is a serious issue. Many students regularly skip class, disrupt lessons, waste instructional time, and play tricks on teachers. Some students use their phones to record teachers without consent. When teachers attempt to enforce rules, students may lie or refuse to comply. After disrupting class, students often claim teachers are “not teaching,” despite genuine efforts. Administrators and teachers with children enrolled have contributed to a culture of entitlement. When these students dislike a teacher, situations often escalate and lead to teachers disengaging or leaving. Students are sometimes left without consistent instruction. Academic integrity is compromised. Students are not held accountable for their work, and grades may be changed by administration without teacher input, undermining honesty and responsibility. The school lacks support for students with learning disabilities, ADHD, or language barriers. Some students as early as third grade cannot read, and non-English-speaking students receive little to no academic support. Students who want to learn are negatively affected by unchecked behavior. The work environment is toxic. Teachers are blamed for student behavior, gaslighted, and accused of dishonesty despite spending significant personal time preparing lessons. Several teachers have left for mental health reasons, and many parents have withdrawn students due to instability. This year alone, the fifth grade has had three teachers, and the school continues to struggle with staffing.While some staff members are personally kind and there can be a sense of community for those in good standing, the lack of leadership, stability, and academic quality makes this school a poor choice for families seeking a structured, well-rounded education.

This school's reviews have been disabled on Google. Am unable to warn others with public review there, and on Facebook page it's apparent that rose-colored reviews are scheduled on same days, multiple at a time from family, friends of, and employees of school. Years of deleted reviews on Facebook then, all at once, 10 positive reviews on the same day, conveniently timed at the end of school year to increase enrollment for upcoming year. Why would a school that has been in operation for 50 years change their name from "Bible Baptist School" to "Matthews Christian Academy" and rebrand if they had built a strong reputation in the community? We moved here and had enrolled when we found out. A family told us their kid was held back THREE TIMES and was a normal kid. They tried to boot our kid out of first grade half-way into the year despite having good grades on record at the time because they claimed that our 6 year old could not "sit still during instruction." Use letter grades to grade first graders which is unusual for age and assign several homework assignments daily, usually 3-5 differing assignments and tests. Noticed that many classmates were older and likely had been held back. Class size much higher than anticipated, over 20 children (22-24 range) for first grade with teacher and assistant although had advertised small class sizes. Only had resources to serve 20 students in next grade up because only had one teacher for second grade, meaning not every first grader was making the cut and ours was on that list, obviously wasn't a teacher's favorite. School is not operating in best interest of prospective families as they attempt to over-enroll first graders in scheme to gain more tuition funding. Few first graders will inevitably be failed or dismissed from school with very strict, anal retentive first grade teacher. Failed ones make more money for school in long run. First few grades are 24-15 students then taper off as grades go up, class sizes get to 5-7 by high school graduation showing their low retention. High teacher turnover. Over 80% students are international probably due to local reputation. Had costly extra assistance from outside school, unfortunately teacher, director and elementary coordinator had clear agenda against working with us as parents to help our kid. Will never enroll in another Christian school as a result. Terrible for our child's confidence. We are trying to repair as we move onto future educational endeavors. Please beware.
