Orchard Elementary School

This school has been great for my kids. The teaching and administration staff is caring and informative my kids are learning. I am Happy with it.

My brothers and I attended Highland 1998-2002. School built a time capsule year 2000 inside/underneath the rock table in front of the school that's still standing, it's neat pretty cool doing something like but my question is does anybody know when they will unearth ? Table doesn't say any dates and and I've called the school to ask but no no staff knows and there's no inscription

This is a great neighborhood school. We have three students, 5th, 3rd, and Kindergarten and all are thriving in this caring and supportive environment. McKinley is the most socioeconomically diverse school in the city. Therefore there is a diverse student population based on needs in order to meet academic standards. There are many supports in the school for both ends of the spectrum of student abilities due to additional resources as a title school. This school has great administrative leadership and a tremendous retention rate of new teachers who are willing to commit to a more challenging population to educate because of the high standards and culture of support. Finally this historic building was fully renovated and has the old school charm with updated amenities. Wouldn't ask for anything else for our kids. Very active PTA, but definitely a need for more parental involvement to support the system.

The current principal is a former counselor and has a great grasp on what the kids need. He’s very supportive and listens to the students and holds them responsible for their actions. The 5 Houses, 1 School Family (think Hogwarts) has encouraged positive competition and improved performance within the student body. Smaller class sizes have been wonderful, too. The teachers and staff really care for the students and want the best for them.

Great school. The teachers and principle are amazing, they are very helpful and considerate. They also have great programs that get everyone involved all year round. Overall the best school in my opinion. Don’t be put off by the neighborhood this is the southeast side of town and not like the south side used to be!
