Read what parents are saying about Nixa Junior High SchoolIf you are looking at reviews to find the best school, then please look further. There is apparently an influx of students to Nixa due to the ratings. My family was one of the new transplants to this area If you are not from MO and are new, they will have your child tested, and “IF” there is a spot, then your child may get into an honors course. The spots are usually full of students already in the Nixa public schools. Your child will also be placed in whatever electives that are left open, such as Home Ec (FACS) or study hall. Your child will be targeted as an outsider from the kids who apparently are not nice to kids who aren’t a from here. I am not talking about ethnicity or orientation, which apparently is an issue as well, but kids are simply targeted for not being “from” this area. The school is underfunded, as are most MO schools, and it shows. If you look at the stats, it shows a high percentage of pass rates on things such as algebra tests, which is great. But considering that only 17% of the school even takes an algebra course, it isn’t great at all. Especially when chances are that your exceptionally gifted child won’t be one of them. They will give the speech on how crowded the school is, but that they can’t accommodate all new students into honors classes.I would definitely look at other schools, and if you have the means, other areas. Like other reviewers, we will be exiting this school.
Posted by a parent on 11/10/2022Leave the Nixa school district. The Junior High was end game for my family. Teachers screaming at students, coaches playing Eminem rap during class, toxic administrators and extremely poor leadership. This school is literally a bully’s playground. Get away from Nixa schools.
Posted by a parent on 7/15/2021Our family made the choice to move out of the Nixa district mainly due to our experience at the Junior High. This is a mismanaged district and has been rapidly declining over the past five years. Look elsewhere!!
Posted by a parent on 6/25/2020excellent curriculum, like-minded teachers with the friendliness and comradery of a smaller community.

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe community in Nixa has changed greatly in recent years. More and more people are being priced out of the district. The public schools will ask for money constantly from parent in addition to constantly raising taxes almost yearly. Espy Elementary has been a disappointment. I attended as a child and two of my children have attended recently. My daughter who had attended their special education pre-school for 2 years and had an IEP for kindergarten was told she no longer needed services despite the fact that she struggled to meet minimum grade requirements even after working on her education at home. She received an Autism diagnosis in the 3rd grade and I requested that she be re-assessed for an IEP due to the diagnosis as she was struggling greatly in school. Espy and their special education services director outright refused to assess her/ see if she would be eligible for help citing the fact that she met the minimum requirements for her grade despite the fact that she had a new diagnosis, therapy and previous IEP paperwork on file with the district, and was coming home daily to essentially do more schoolwork to just barely stay afloat at school. Providing paperwork and explanations did NOT matter to the school. I would understand if she had not qualified after testing but they REFUSED to even test her for qualification in the first place. In addition they also refused her a 504 for headphones for sensory issues she was having in the class room even with her pediatrician signing off on it being needed. If you have a child with an IEP, a child who is suspected of having special needs, a child who has or might need a 504, DO NOT send them to Espy Elementary. They have their hands full and don’t want to deal with more kids who need help unless your child is exhibiting excessive disruptive or destructive behavior. They do NOT care about your child’s success in the classroom. In addition we had constant issues with the nurse there. She literally could not tell the difference between gnats and lice. Heaven forbid if your child got a stomach ache she would call you, require your child be picked up even without a fever and then proceed to reprimand you for sending your child to school “sick”. This happened to multiple families besides our own and was prevalent during the 5 years our children attended Espy before we pulled them from the district.Parent Review1y ago - Century Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe principal in this school lacks professionalism in decision making and attire. There are so many new teachers every year. This is an indication that administration is the problem. It’s a “mean girls club” and she is the leader. Parents are not welcome in this school. No music programs or fine arts nights. They do fundraisers but no one knows where the money goes. I wish we would have moved to Mathews side of town.Parent Review3mo ago - Summit Intermediate School

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have 2 children, one entering and one exiting Summit. I feel lucky that my children go to this school. My oldest is now prepared for middle school and my youngest is excited to begin intermediate school. We have had an amazing experience at this school. I wanted to leave a review because the other 2 reviews were negative and our experience couldn’t be further from that.Parent Review2y ago - High Pointe Elementary School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy child loved going to West. He knew when he was in trouble that he had to own up to his mistakes. He learned to respect the teachers and staff and students. He excelled at technology and was given the chance to grow his skills in that aspect and not be held back to others skill levels. I recommend this school to anyone moving to the area.Parent Review5y ago - JOHN THOMAS SCHOOL OF DISCOVER
