Read what parents are saying about Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing ArtsUnfortunately this school is the worst we have ever experienced in the communication between the administration department and parents as well as the overall attitude on attendance and specifically the motivation toward student goals and encouragement to advance in life. The students and staff we were associated with have”I don’t care attitudes”.. we are extremely disappointed in quality of the education provided in a public school system in Kansas City.I would highly recommend moving to Kansas school system if at all possible.
Posted by a parent on 12/17/2023Paseo is a great school art programs are phenomenal . the school is clean safe and the teachers are great this is one of the best public high schools in Kansas City in my opinion
Posted by a parent on 2/26/2014This is a great school but they need to expel kids that are constantly bullying the same kids. This is the only problem and I think the teachers are great but the VP doesn't follow thru with certain things. Maybe if the school had more money it could be used for their special needs class.
Posted by a parent on 9/13/2013Pros: They have a great library and the staff is very friendly. All the arts programs are well funded and award winning. The building is fairly new (opened in 1991). The halls are filled with top quality art projects. There are field trips nearly every week. Cons: There are field trips nearly every week. The core subjects suffer. Discipline at Paseo is lacking. From the principal on down the school gives students far too many chances. Teacher turnover is high. Attendance is low. Classrooms are not equipped with Smart Boards like many nearby schools have. Much of the technology they have is not being used to it s full potential. There are no sports. The custodial staff could be better managed. There is a sink in the bathroom that has been leaking for months all over the floor.

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is horrible. They state to have an anti bullying policy, but there is none. The teachers are over worked and underpaid. The principal is slow to partner with parents about any issues or concerns. There is little to no communication. Their after school program is under funded and is in serious need as well.Parent Review4y ago - Genesis School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe are in our third wonderful year at the lower school, with our son in the Early Childhood program, and our daughter in 2nd grade. We moved from California where the private schools are extremely elite and we are so thankful that we have been a part of the PHS community these three years. Our son has had THE most wonderful preschool experience imaginable--his teachers have all been absolutely INCREDIBLE--experienced, patient, kind, loving, engaged, communicative, inspiring, thoughtful, organized, highly intelligent, and at the top of their game. They know exactly when to lend support while also instilling independence. The principle, support staff, and admin at EC are exceptional. The EC building is a haven of warmth, love, brightness, and nature--the Reggio Emilia philosophy is evident throughout the interior and exterior spaces, and the emphasis on exploratory and nature-based learning has been absolutely MAGICAL. The art atelier will blow your mind! Our son is so excited to go to school each morning where he learns gardening, Spanish, music, art, mindfulness, body movement, and is immersed in play-based learning. His teachers are always on the forefront of emotional, social and academic developmental expertise. It is a warm cocoon and we will cry when he graduates this year! Our daughter has also had an incredible experience at PHS. Her teachers are highly educated, dedicated, attentive, caring, and flexible. They also tutor after school, which has been a wonderful aid in boosting her confidence in math and reading. The enrichment programs at PHS are world class--the music, art, sports, and language classes are exceptional. The admin staff, headmaster, and principle are available and easy to work with, and have always addressed any concerns. Something that has really impressed us is how quickly the counselors work to dissolve playground bullying/cliques, especially amongst the girls. There is such an fantastic emphasis on emotional intelligence at PHS, which fuels all learning and social interaction. The admin to parent communication is organized, thoughtful and consistent, and there is an open-door policy to feedback. The parent community is down-to-earth, yet highly educated and accomplished, and we've made so many friends. There is a lot of parent involvement and participation and good opportunities for volunteering. The campus itself is incredibly charming and historic, with open courtyards and huge trees. We absolutely love PHS!Parent Review2mo ago - St. Monica Catholic School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI am a current student at sion and I would NOT recommend this. I understand that KCMO does not have the best options for education, but if I had the choice I would move to Kansas to get a good public school education. The principle and assistance principle are not the best people. One year ago I was struggling with my mental health, I was in a bad situation and didn’t know what to do. One day I got into a disagreement with a boy in my class, and I was sent to the principle’s office. In the principle’s office I was yelled at by 5 of the staff, including the principle, assistant principal, school counselor, and 2 teachers. This was forever traumatizing to me, as I was in recovery from a bad stretch of social anxiety. Later that day I talked to the school counselor about the situation and how it made me feel. The counselor proceeded to tell the principal, and the principal forced me to got to the psych unit of the ER to get me ‘diagnosed’. This experience will forever haunt me and my family. One thing I want to add is that Sion does not buy period products for the girls, they guilt trip parents into buying the products to donate to the school. Overall I think that Sion is not a good environment for teens and preteens because of the staff. If you are considering Sion for your child DO NOT SEND THEM THERE. This is an honest review from a student who still attends Sion. It is not worth it.Student Review5mo ago - St. Francis Xavier School
