As someone who has gone through Grandview Middle and High School, I will tell you that I was not prepared for college after graduating from here. I was in all of the advanced classes, took college credit courses and I thought I was ready. However, I had not developed any study skills or had my future discussed in anyway that could have put me on the right path. At GHS you can easily skate through with As and Bs without applying yourself (I know I did) and I was never taught the right way to write college-level papers, research techniques, or APA format. There were fights, screaming, and overall unpleasantness in the hallway that felt very chaotic for an introvert like me and so one of my fondest memories I have was my graduation when I finally didn't have to go there anymore and I could be surrounded by people who valued learning and not being an overall shit head. Yes, there are good and bad students like every school has, but if you value your kids education, please don't send them here. Go to the Kansas side and find a school that can fund sports other than football, and doesn't have monthly room lockdowns to have drug dogs walk by the lockers to find contriband. Yes, there were good teachers too (although one ended up dating my friend after graduation and another hit on my friend via Facebook), but the good teachers are so burnt out from the more challenging students, that the good students could get away with murder. Which isn't preparing you for the real world at all.

I have had my 3 children graduate from Grandview in the last 5 years. These teachers are amazing and love the kids. My oldest just graduated with an engineering degree, my second is attending college for physics and my 3rd is attending community college with the A+ program. All three did great and had amazing opportunities at GHS both in the classroom & out. I truly believe you will get out of a school what you put into it.

Poor. I taught here for 6 years and left this year due to feeling stressed and overwhelmed by non-essential, non-teaching tasks and weary from 60-70 hour work weeks. Teachers feel constantly undermined and unappreciated instead of supported in dealing with an increasingly transient and impoverished student population.

The teachers are mostly okay, but the current administration is terrible. The principal yells at kids and seems to lose her temper very easily.Test scores have really dropped since she took over last year. My special education student reports getting little help and lots of teacher absences. I haven't talked to his case manager all year. The lady who runs the special education office is really nasty when you call to find out what is going on. I do not get any meeting notices, and then they expect me to reschedule at times that don't work. This high school is going south fast, we have had several kids here in the last 8 years, each year is worse than the last!

We have been a part of the Grandview schools for 3 years now, but have lived in Grandview for over 15 years. We have a senior, sophomore and an 8th grader here and am very proud of their school and the community. You couldn't ask for better teachers and you would be hard pressed to find a school district with more teachers that have taught in the same district for years as Grandview does. It says a lot when a district has so many long standing teachers. Grandview is truly a hidden jewel of a community.
