The school name is Hamline Elementary. The principal has changed in the last few years....for the good. Our current principal and vice principal are heavily involved with the kids, their families, the Hamline to Hamline (University) collaboration, PTA and neighboring Rec Center. The school has a Community Resource Room for families, Math Connection, Reading Corp, and community art and music partnerships. If people are only interested in scores from one measurement, they are missing the point of life and school readiness. I encourage families to visit, get involved, and explore what is a hidden gem.

Our son is at Hamline Elementary. (Not Hamline/Hancock, and not the principal listed - It'd be good if they could correct the very out-of-date information on this website, including school name, principal, etc.). Hamline Elementary has one of the oldest partnerships anywhere in the country with a college or university (Hamline University, across the street). It has superb, seasoned teachers. And the University pays about 100 work study students to work in the school throughout the school year. And Hamline University pays a full-time coordinator to focus on the relationship between the University and school. The 22 students in our son's class has a teacher, an aide, and a Hamline work-study student at all times, and possibly other staff. Talk about attention!Kids are partnered with a Hamline University department in each grade - which is eye-opening for youngsters, gets them thinking long-term and about college, and helps build great relationships between college students and elementary-age students. We toured several public and charter schools, and in class after class, the teachers clearly loved being here, the students were engaged or rapt with attention, and the school teemed with positive energy, from the top to bottom.A word how the "formulaic" ratings on websites like this work. We looked at them when making a school selection, and found them to be not helpful. We're white, middle class parents, but the diversity of this school is a true strength. When you have a diverse students, including many English language learners and immigrant families, scores may not be where they're at for other schools. Low scores are mainly a proxy for the background of students at the school. When kids come from a home with concerned, caring parents, reams of research show they perform just as well in this environment as anywhere. And they sure seem to have better teachers, a richer environment with Hamline University, and the great experience of being part of a diverse community. There are many great choices for elementary school in St. Paul Schools, but Hamline Elementary gets our unqualified recommendation.

I wouldn't recommend this school to no one. total nightmare for my kids and our family. They have a time out room they will put your child in there when school starts until the end of the day or until the child passes out from crying. Several parents that I know have pulled their kids out of this school and other parents don't enroll
