Oak-Land Middle School

I literally never leave reviews for anything. No time. But this school deserves a minute of my time. We drive our kids 25 minutes each way to attend the Spanish Immersion school. I have a 1st and 2nd grader. The teachers are amazing and know each child individually. Couldn't be more pleased. No bullying problems at all and I am always a little paranoid about that. The school has a diverse population and the faculty have stepped up and addressed the racism issue head on. Principal has stepped and shown some leadership around this in emails and there are even classes being offered for parents in how to talk about racism. Emotional regulation is being taught as part of curriculum. This feels like a place where people are coming together to journey how to do better, just with just words, but in deed. Hoping to see more diverse staff as time goes on.No homework in elementary school, but encouraged to read every day and play math games, etc.

We’ve been part of this school community for about five years, and it’s been amazing to watch it grow. The new buildings and learning spaces are beautiful, but what really stands out is how much the school has invested in people. There are more guides, more support staff, and you can feel the difference in the level of care and attention each child receives.The community is something special. The guides truly know and love the kids. Even though our daughter isn’t in middle school yet, she’s already built a great relationship with the new junior high guide through math club and time spent with her throughout the day. Having that kind of bridge into the next stage is something we never expected, and it’s been a gift. We can’t wait for the junior high to open. It’s clear the school is always improving and thinking about the future for our kids.Tuition is definitely an investment, but for us it has been completely worth it. We recommend SCMS wholeheartedly.
