Northern Elementary School

Location: The school itself sits just outside of the city of Bemidji.Outdoor area: it has a large outdoor area with a large playground, soccer field, gaga ball, basketball hoops, and an area for an ice-skating rink in the winter. Indoor: There are two buildings, with 9 classrooms, a cafeteria, and boys & girls bathrooms. There is also a principles office, secretary’s desk, and a small nurses station/sick room.School Community: Everyone is very caring. The staff and teachers are very approachable and easily accessible in person or via email or phone. There is a feeling of family with the smaller class sizes. Parents are welcome to and encouraged to volunteer at the school whenever they are able.Academics: There is daily devoted time to worship, pray, and Bible class. There is a standard/goal for students to achieve high academic standings and the curriculum is chosen and quality teachers hired to support this standard/goal. I am also very pleased that God and the bible is weaved into all areas of learning and not just devoted to a single Bible class.Student Centered: My student was also supported and given accommodations for his special needs in the classroom, the teacher and director of operations was very open and willing to work with us to find solutions to ensure a healthy and student-centered learning environment was established.Administration: it is apparent in all dealings with the school that God is the number one priority at this school and there is a servant leadership model that lends well to being the hands and feet of Jesus and showing the students how to live out the lives God wants for us. I also appreciate the professionalism displayed by the administrator and staff. Again they are all very approachable, caring, and invested in the school and the students they are teaching.Safety: The school is locked down during the school day. There is a camera system that is used outside to increase safety as people approach the school. And the environment is free from violence, discrimination, and harsh punishment. All staff attend CPR and first-aid training and emergency drills and practiced throughout the year.
