Childs Elementary School

We absolutely love the multi-age and Spanish immersion opportunities that are available at Bishop. Having toured multiple programs prior to our child entering Kindergarten, the options for alternative learning experiences, diversity of the school population, and genuine nature of the staff sold us on Bishop. We found our second 'home' right in our own neighborhood.

This elementary school is wonderful. The communication is above and beyond. I can contact the teacher anytime of the day directly. They keep the students involved and wanting to learn all while making it fun. Many days on the calendar are filled with interactive fun for all. My daughter doesn't even realize how much she is learning bc of their approach. I have never had a bad experience with Brick staff, and nothing is overlooked when it comes to your child in my experience. This is a very welcoming school, and my daughter absolutely loves getting up for school everyday. Can't say enough positive things about Brick elementary!!

This school (practically) saved my daughter's life. We enrolled our only child in the "Young 5s" at YIES, determined to support the public school system and those students routinely disadvantaged by the emerging charter/privatization trend. Where do I start? At YIES, my child was categorized as in the bottom 20% academically (we were *without doubt* that this was incorrect based on her performance at home), she was physically and emotionally unsafe (often coming home with visible bruises and scratches), and both before and after a student-with-a-gun-on-campus incident, we faced pretty close to TOTAL silence from her young-5s teacher and principle. Mid-year, we made the very difficult decision to switch her in January to EA. Thank you, God! Thank you, Principle Newby, Dean Rowekamp, and her unbelievably gifted Kindergarten teacher Ms. Bloom!!! Our lives and our daughter's has changed dramatically. In terms of her academic performance, she is now testing at what we suspected, above proficient in most subjects. There is no threat of physical or emotional danger from classmates. The near constant communication from her teacher and administrative staff is more than a blessing. The school and those who work there/lead it are without exception professional, warm, caring nurturing to the kiddoes, and just plain GREAT at what they do - - and always available. We hate that we took her out of a (struggling) public school, but our politics had to take a back seat to making sure our child got what she needed. And I'm sure the teachers at YIES are underpaid, unsupported and totally burnt out (LOTS of turnover), so I'm not one of those parents who is fast to "blame the teacher." But I also need to be honest: it was like taking her out of an unsupervised war zone (YIES) to an organized, warm, structured next of student support (EA). I literally can't say enough good things about East Arbor.
