Beaumont Elementary School

I regret to say that our experience at Dublin Elementary School has been immensely frustrating, particularly given my child’s health challenges. If you have a child with any illnesses, I strongly advise against enrolling them in this school.From the outset, the administration has displayed a serious lack of understanding and compassion regarding students with medical issues. I am feeling forced to do a home bound solution because I'm still getting letters this year only after my child exceeded five absences due to illness, despite having multiple doctor’s notes, so it won't matter if you have a note they will hold it against you. We began receiving letters threatening implications for attendance. It was disheartening to see that the school's focus seemed to be on penalties rather than supporting my child’s well-being. The insistence on enforcing their attendance policy, regardless of medical documentation, shows a complete disregard for the health needs of students.Furthermore, instead of working with us to find a reasonable solution, communication from the school was bureaucratic and unhelpful. There was little effort made to understand our situation, which left us feeling isolated and unsupported. Rather than fostering an inclusive environment, it felt as if the school prioritized policies over the health and needs of the students.This is especially concerning for a child who may need more support due to health issues. My child has struggled to keep pace, and any hope of personalized assistance has been dashed by the school’s rigid policies.In summary, if your child has any health concerns, I strongly recommend exploring other educational options. The lack of compassion and understanding at Dublin Elementary has made our experience not just frustrating, but also detrimental to my child’s emotional and academic wellbeing. It’s disheartening to see a school that fails to prioritize the needs of its students, and I hope this review serves as a caution to other parents.

The principal has no control over her emotions. She puts on a show for the parents but does as little as possible to be kind to the students. The discipline actions are arbitrary. My son was just released from an IEP before kindergarten. Houghton never got the records or treated him with an occupational therapist for his sensory issues. Instead they decided to punish him. They made the worst out of him. As I volunteer, I would see a black boy sitting out in the hall way all by himself. This appeared racist to me. Poor Communication amongst staff to parents, No yoga, mindfulness or socio-emotional learning. There is a high turnover rate of teachers and students. The superintendent is unapproachable. This elementary school is not rated in the top 50 elementary schools in Michigan. If you live in White Lake, send your kids to Dublin or Oxbow if they have any room.

We love Haviland. I was homeschooling in Virginia and put my kids in Haviland 2 years ago after moving to Waterford. No regrets. Amazing teachers with great communication.

The K–4 elementary program is adequate, but the middle school lacks strong instruction and does not effectively meet the needs of diverse learners. Leadership is lacking, and communication is limited and inconsistent among staff and with parents. Administration does not build relationships with parents and instead often makes families feel isolated. Teachers are not sufficiently trained to support students with varying learning needs, and students are often disciplined for behaviors that may be part of their neurodiversity. Resources and after-school programs are minimal. The small middle and high school student population contributes to a cliquey environment that feels exclusionary to some students. The building is in need of updates, particularly the bathrooms, which are in poor condition, and cold tap water prevents students from adequately washing their hands. The school calendar often changes with limited notice, and students are given multiple days off when fundraising goals are met, which takes away from instructional time. Significant improvements are needed in leadership, teacher training, instructional practices, and student supports at the secondary level.

I have two children at Oakdale and we have been apart of the school community for 5 years now. I’ve watched my children thrive in more ways than I can write. If you want your child to be a part of a community and more than just a number, Oakdale truly feels like family and I’d highly recommend this school.
