Concerns Regarding Academic Rigor and Parental Engagement at Gallimore ElementaryWhile Gallimore Elementary prides itself on its high ranking within Michigan, there is a significant disconnect between the school’s reputation and the actual educational value provided. Because admission is based solely on CogAT scores, the student body consists of naturally gifted children. However, the current curriculum feels average—if not below average—and fails to challenge these bright minds. The academic success attributed to the school appears to be driven primarily by intensive parental support rather than the school’s internal systems.Student Experience and Preparedness:While elementary school should allow for play, it must also serve as a foundation for discipline. Currently, there is a lack of emphasis on time management and homework habits. Most teachers do not assign consistent work, leaving students unprepared for the heavy workload they will inevitably face in middle school. Without being taught how to plan and study independently now, even the most brilliant students risk falling behind later.Communication and Resources:As parents, we are often left in the dark. Aside from Mathematics, there are no textbooks or structured syllabi provided, making it nearly impossible for us to reinforce what is being taught in the classroom. Relying on daily classwork papers is insufficient for meaningful home-school alignment.Conclusion:The school’s "Number One" status is a reflection of its selective intake and the dedication of the parents, not the quality of the instruction. For the school to truly live up to its ranking, it must take more responsibility for the academic development of its students rather than leaving their success entirely to the mercy of home intervention.

Our experience with this school was extremely disappointing, and I would not recommend it to other families.From very early in the school year, we felt there was a lack of patience, understanding, and support for children who may have more energy or a strong personality. Only 10 days into the school year, shortly after returning from summer break, we were contacted and told our child was struggling. We felt this was far too soon to make judgments about a child who was still adjusting to a new classroom, routine, and teacher.One situation was particularly concerning. Our child told us they were made to clean the classroom while the other students were allowed to play during recess. When we raised our concerns, we felt the situation was denied rather than properly addressed. We escalated our concerns, yet we never received what we felt was an appropriate response or apology from school or district leadership.Ultimately, we made the decision to transfer our child to another school. What was especially disappointing was that after we left, no one contacted us to ask why we transferred, discuss our concerns, or even arrange for us to pick up the school supplies we had provided.We also personally felt there was favoritism within the school community. Families who were heavily involved with the PTA, volunteered frequently, or had closer relationships with staff appeared to receive different treatment. We witnessed situations that reinforced this concern, including a parent seemingly being accommodated so that her daughter and several friends could be placed together in the same classroom with a preferred teacher.Most concerning, our family did not feel equally welcomed or supported, and we had serious concerns about how families and children from different racial and cultural backgrounds were treated. Based on our experience, we did not feel the school provided the inclusive environment that every child deserves.There are many caring and supportive schools within this district, and unfortunately, this was not our experience here. We chose to move our child because we wanted a school environment where our child would feel supported, respected, and given a fair opportunity to adjust and succeed.

This is not the first Catholic school my children have attended in the diocese but it is by far the best. OLGC has been incredibly welcoming. I was actually shocked by how friendly and helpful everyone was to my children and I when they started school. I appreciate that my children get a true Catholic education with the benefits of PC services. The school now has a full time resource officer as well so I have peace of mind that my children are safe whether they are at mass or class. I love that many families are in it for the long haul so my children will get to grow with their peers for years to come. With the guidance of MSG Todd and Mrs Ervin the school has become a beautiful place that nurtures students academically and spiritually.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this school! Our family has been incredibly grateful for our experience at Plymouth Christian Academy. The teachers genuinely care about each student, not only academically but spiritually as well. The strong sense of community, biblical foundation and commitment to excellence have made a lasting impact on our family. It's a place where students are encouraged to grow in knowledge, character, and faith. We highly recommend it to any family looking for a Christ-centered education.
