Read what parents are saying about Winchester Elementary SchoolI agree with the previous poster. Way too much is expected of young children academically. It isn't just this school; it is a district-wide expectation. Making children take the NWEA 3xs per year is asinine. No wonder we see so many anxiety problems in the kids as they grow! The teachers know this but their hands are tied. The teachers, for the most part, are hard-working and good at their jobs.
Posted by a parent on 12/29/2022I would NEVER EVER recommend this school to anyone. Although early education is okay, it's bad to some exitance. I picked up my daughter at the end of the day and when I did she came to me crying, saying she didn't understand what she was doing and that she had a math test. I helped her through it but she still doesn't understand it. This school is pushing their kids to far. My daughter is in 1st grade taking tests and math. When I was in 1st grade I remember still learning how to write my abc's in this school.
Posted by a parent on 12/21/2022We love, love, love Winchester. Both my kids have had very positive experiences. There is a great community feel, the parents are involved, teacher invested and the Principal, Mrs. Lindsey, works so hard to make sure her students are thriving and safe. Our son was invited to the Advanced Learning Program (ALPS), but opted to stay at Winchester because he couldn’t bare to leave his school and teachers. Both my kids have scored very high on NWEA tests and read at a higher grade level. We think Winchester has done a fantastic job in dealing with virtual and in-person teaching in the 2020-2021 school year. Teachers and administrators have been thrown into an incredibly difficult situation, and Winchester has handled it all very positively. Districts around us have utterly failed and got things so wrong for students, parents and teachers. Winchester kids are thriving, like they always have, despite this extreme and challenging situation.
Posted by a parent on 11/21/2020Fair. Expected so much more. Would love to see some good leadership in this school.
Posted by a parent on 12/12/2018Winchester is a wonderful school. I am not surprised by some reviewers who complain about superficial problems such as clicky moms and lack of iPads. These things do not make/break how a school performs. Northville school district out performs many surrounding districts year after year in test scores and this foundation begins at an elementary level. I have three children, two in elementary in 4th and 2nd grade and a preschooler in the early childhood program. I hear complaints about surface issues...other parents, poor paint jobs, asking for too much money, etc. I have been astounded and proud to send my children here every year. My sons are challenged with work I find incredibly hard for their grade level. The staff is superb year after year. The support staff is amazing as well. In any situation. You get what you give. Their job is to educate and grow our children. They do that incredibly well and with passion. So yes, some peeling paint can take a backseat. I could not care less.

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageTerrible school. First off, its very expensive and for the money charged I don't think its worth it. Not all teachers are good and teach equally. Depending on which classroom your kid goes and who teaches that class, your kid will develop or not. My son went to class 3 and all they ever did was craft work and play for the whole school year. Not language, reading, writing or even pre-math. I have a friend's kid who goes to class 4 and has learnt a lot including phonetics, reading, writing, math etc. This kid is same age as my kid and can read sentences, paragraphs together and write alphabets and numbers without need for tracing. When asked about this difference my kid was being blamed to have not picked up the teaching. How will the kid learn anything if all the class ever did was either play or do crafts? Unbelievable! I made the mistake of paying for the whole year upfront and was told there will be no refund. Beware and find a better pre-school with good teachersParent Review5y ago - St Edith Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating Averageit’s an okay school. im not sure if i feel the safest, though. if youre a public schooler, say in like elementary, and come here when you get into middle school, there is unfortunately going to be some pressure put on you. and some of the kids are going to be rude, and sometimes the teachers ignore it. personally, i will be sending my kids to a public school, because my experience here is not so good. i dont have a problem with the teachers, though, i think they are okay. i just dont agree with how they think mental illness is a hoax. or how we are in the same classes every year with the same kids. there are some scary scenarios here and there, but everyone has been safe. all im gonna say is, be safe, be yourself, stick up for yourself no matter what, and be kind.Other Review4mo ago - Our Lady Of Good Counsel School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBe prepared to spend an extra 2k on top of tuition. So many mandatory fundraisers throughout the school year. Things like "if everyone in your child's class brings in a donation, they get a popcorn party" or "every family contributions $200 and your student can be out of uniform". Money is top priority and it's obvious.Parent Review5mo ago - St. Peter Lutheran School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe switched to NCS from public school during covid, with plans to just stay a year. My kids have loved it so much we’ve continued to send them. I love that they learn about their faith, have a strong academic curriculum, and that they learn how to deal with all the social issues that happen in school with guidance from staff. The character building is something I’ve never seen at a public school. Highly recommend this school!Parent Review1y ago - New Morning School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBoth my children are doing very well at this school. It’s really an unique, special learning environment. Ms. Marisa and Ms. Danielle are hands down the best early education teachers around, the preschool education is spectacular. Our elder child is elementary age and doing wonderfully with the small class size and low teacher/student ratios. The school has a long, deep-rooted history in the community and you can tell the staff and families care about the children and the school in general. I’d definitely recommend for Prek-8.Parent Review5mo ago - Northville Montessori Center
