North Muskegon Elementary School

Awful school. We have moved around a lot. My kids have been to quite a few schools and this is by far the worst one. When we went to open house the 5th grade teacher was rude and acted like we weren't even standing in the room, my son is so far behind after the pandemic and she didn't have a word to say to me, didn't even introduce herself. My children said the breakfast is terrible the milk tastes rotten and the bagels are stale. The kids control the teachers run all around the classroom,interrupt, and swear at them IN SECOND GRADE! No wonder test scores are so low these kids aren't learning anything and the teachers don't even want to be there. Please If you can send your child anywhere else do so. Our kids deserve better than this. They don't give these disadvantaged kids even a fighting chance and it's sickening. So happy this will be my childrens last month at this school. Reeths puffer until graduation here we come.

My family made the transition to Reeths Puffer in October 2018. My son entered at the first grade level. We have been disappointed since he started. His academic level came crashing down, making no advantages let alone retaining the education level he previously had. My son has never been in trouble before, yet by the second month he was being "written" up almost every day. He watched poor disgusting behavior from the students at Reeths Puffer, and when he started to mimic what he was seeing he was punished day after day until he started getting out of school suspension. This school thought it was necessary to suspend a first grader for behaving as the rest of the students were. I have sat in on classes, and could not believe what I saw, my son was not the only one. I witnessed exactly what my son was getting in trouble for day after day. My son would come home talking about extremely inappropriate topics that he learned from other students. He would reference children having spoken to him about sex, "humping" and even demonstrating what other children have displayed in regards to sexual movements. My son had come home so terrified by the "scary" things other children had discussed with him to the point where he was too afraid to be left unattended , we even had to rearrange his bedroom so that his bed was closer to the doorway just so that he could sleep through the night. This does not even touch on how poor the teachers and faculty handled the situations. My son had even been told once by his teacher she would "lock him out" of the classroom. This only contributed to the newly adapted anxiety/scared behavior he was displaying. My son was clearly having a bad experience and unfortunately the adults at this school left my son behind to try and conquer these ridiculous battles alone. I was told that my son "needed more tools in his toolbox" rather than bettering my son's experience here I believe it became comedy to the immature, and bored adults/teachers at Reeths Puffer. The teachers at Reeths Puffer are not there for the right reasons. They are there for half days, snow days, and their beloved summer time. My son is now seeking psychological help after attending this school. Please save yourself the stress, tears, anxiety and depression that both you and your child will certainly experience if your child is not a teachers pet/cookie cutter individual.

It was my experience that the $$ talks at this school. Coming from a long legacy of Catholic School educators and parents, this school can barely call itself Catholic let alone Christian or any kind. The amount of bullying and undercutting that goes on at this school is disgraceful, and the daily attempts at implementing PBIS were pathetic. At this school if your family has money you can do or say just about anything. If you do not, it doesn’t matter how smart or talented you are, you will be ignored. Sad and unacceptable.

This school has the potential to be a “best the odds” school. Wonderful, diverse staff, many of whom live in the community. However, there is a problem at the top. The leader uses manipulation and fear tactics to lead. She is unkind and pits her staff against one another. She has been known to publicly humiliate staff members. She expects the works of teachers and staff with very little support. In an area that really needs good options for education, this school is not the best choice.
