I would recommend Manistee high school! It is because of the great education I have been given that I am an almost all A student. Although we need some better math teachers, the school has great extra circulars from Forensics (Drama/debate), to Science Olympiad, Band, Quiz Bowl, Youth In Government, a wide variety of sports such as hockey, soccer for both boys and girls, football, volleyball, cross country, track, and much more! Anyone who claims that faculty is too selective as far as extracurriculars has missed the fact that all you must do to stay on a team is remain eligible (not fail any classes). Manistee has a modern power learning program that allows for a lot of online learning and research, which is great to have as a student, and if you would prefer books for your classes, you can be accommodated. There are several dances, several school wide spirit weeks, assemblies, college visits, dual enrollment, and several electives with great art classes!Posted by a student on 12/2/2014
I would not recommend this school district. Unless you're an A+ student or an exceptional athlete, you are not given equal opportunities for successPosted by a community member on 7/24/2014
I think that Manistee High School is a great school, the teachers are fair enough, and there is an excellent band program directed by a wonderful teacher. I am in her band class and I think she is one of the nicest, funniest, yet still tough teachers that you will have. She is not a pushover, has a wonderfully strong attitude, and when I moved to this town, my old band director told me that I was lucky to be in her band class. There is a decent drama program, we recently played Little Shop of Horrors with a director who left soon after the show was finished for an opportunity in Grand Rapids. The extra-curricular classes and sports are extensive, ranging from volleyball to anime club. I highly recommend this school for anyone wishing to learn and still have a good time. Plus, the hot lunch isn't bad.Posted by a student on 1/11/2012
Manistee High School is a great school. I'd recommend it to anyone. With their laptop "PowerLearning" program in full effect, information is much more available to the students. Using Moodle (for homework, tests, quizzes, ect.) and PowerSchool (Grades and Attendance) makes more information available to students. Teachers are great. Many CP classes as well as AP classes. Dual Enrollment through West Shore Community College and online classes through the "Yes Academy". Challenging curriculum. Top notch facilities for athletics, one of the best band programs as well. Great administrators, too. Can't find a better place in Manistee County for acedemics, MHS is the best.Posted by a student on 11/27/2011

Manistee High School has a great modern facility that provides outstanding resources for the dedicated and capable teaching staff . Class sizes are small which allows teachers to take time to really educate the students and not just prep them for standarized testing. High School admin staff does a good job maintaining order and discipline among the students, but needs to improve in leadership and guidance for their teaching staff. Both our children are recent graduates of MHS and have proven to have been well prepared for college academics.Posted by a parent on 10/2/2010

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI went to jefferson school from 1995-1997. It was a great school with memorable staff. I only had a problem with one teacher. This is where I found my love of reading and I loved the librarian, and the 2nd grade teachers. This school was cutting edge back then-(where I saw my first computers) and now (my daughter goes there and teaches ME how to do her homework on the iPads that distribute!). Great playground, great teachers, charming mid 20th century school. Wish they didn't have those unsightly portable classrooms now- those weren't always there. Students are active in the community and they have fun events, assemblies, fund raisers, movie nights, daddy daughter dances, and a great administration. I was proud to send my daughter there for her 1st and 2nd grade years.Other Review6y ago

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageA joke! That’s why all the test scores are below average. They have no real teaching education, so how can they teach?Parent Review2y ago

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur experience in the elementary parts of MAPS has been truly awful, just look at the scores. As our 2nd grader was struggling with reading, the teachers response was that our student's comprehension was low. After asking for resources from the teacher, she failed to supply any internal MAPS resources (which do exist) or external resources. We finally found out about MAPS elementary reading resources from a parent that had chosen home schooling over what little MAPS has to offer. This school district is run on ineptitude disguised by administrators that are completely out of touch (and probably under-resourced).Parent Review2y ago
