This school is being classified because it is predominantly black. My son goes to this school. The teachers are great, and the students are brilliant and work hard. It is so easy to judge when you are on the outside looking in.
Posted by a parent on 3/25/2022The principal is so unprofessional. I been trying to get mt son enrolled. She doesn't return parents phone calls at a reasonable time. I just recently moved and thought this would be a good school I was very wrong the secretary is really rude and needs to be fired she doesn't do her job right by letting the unprofessional principle who called for her. This school really makes me hate grand rapids public schools.

Posted by a parent on 8/7/2013My School is William C. Abney Academy and I as well as my children love the school. I have been affiliated with the school since my Nephew attended the school back when it first opened and he began in Kindergarten until the 4th grade, as 5th grade and up was not available. My nephew is now 17 years old. Both of my sons began at William C. in Kindergarten, they are both now in grades 2nd & 5th, as well as my neice. I was an involved Aunt back when nephew attended and diffently an involved parent. The academics, programs, tutoring, busing system & now sport teams available to the students. I have recommended the school to other parents & a few of them have registered their children to attend & now do attend the school. I love the direction the school is going in with the New Implementation of Performing Arts being brought into the school, so Kudos to WIlliam C. Abney Academy Bishop Abney had a vision & having his Granddaughter Erica Glenn involved in the school , apart of the process, makes me personally feel good, because it shows that the School Board, Administration, Staff takes Bishop Abneys Vision/Dream Seriously.

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageClass sizes at Wealthy have significantly increased over the past years. 27-28 students per class is now the average. Had we known this would happen, we would have moved to Forest Hills or Byron Center where the class size in elementary is closer to 22-23 students per class. The teachers at Wealthy are great but they are stretched thin due to class size. It seems teacher turnover has increased too. I am so impressed with the welcoming environment, appropriate expectations, and amazing teachers. My children love seeing their old teachers who remember everything about them, many many years later. The other parents at the school are devoted and very welcoming, and invited me into their social events even when I was nervous to do so. I now wish I had been involved sooner. The school was great to adjust all learning needs by having staff available to work independently with both kids who need extra help, and those who are more advanced, so no one is left behind or stagnant in their learning.Parent Review5mo ago - Martin Luther King Leadership Academy

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school might not be quiet advanced as others, but the level of respects towards teachers and others it's much better compared to highly qualified schools!!! Children are expected to have fun and enjoy every day and expected to give their best!!They are not expected to be some kind of robot who excels on everything!!!Perfection isn't expected at this school, therefore, children are more at ease and are quiet respectful and friendly!!Staff does their very best to keep children safe and loved by those who have a compassionate heart!!!The secretary is a lovely human being!!!!My girls were referred to City High Middle of school but we preferred to stay due to the level of such caring and compassionate staff!!!We don't want or expect smart children but rather prefer to raise responsible and caring children to make a difference in our community!Thank you MLK!!We pray and hope for a better coming school year 2022-2023 so that we may not be the only family to be happy to part of MLK!!!Parent Review1y ago - St. Isidore Catholic Elementary School
