Read what parents are saying about Northern High SchoolVery bad experience here. New to the school district. Very disorganized process with initial enrollment. My child went to classes and her name was not on the attendance for the designated classes. Found out my child was flunking majority of her classes, but did not realize this until too late due to poor communication. Felt guidance counselor and teachers talked down to me due to my student having difficulty in the majority of classes. It was extremely difficult in a pandemic and doing the majority of learning remotely for my child to be on the computer all day and doing homework all night. My child has medical issues and I informed the nurse. I did not know it was my responsibility to enroll her in a special accommodation plan. We are leaving the school and so happy to be leaving— worst experience ever. Students were not welcoming of a new student.

Posted by a parent on 3/10/2019This school provides an excellent education as well as diversity (compared to the other 2 Forest Hills High Schools); this is a very good thing. The school staff is very focused on providing the best prep possible for the students to succeed in college.
Posted by a parent on 11/10/2015I have two students in the Spanish Immersion Program at the HS. They love school and the SI Program. They both are involved in choir and one does musicals and the other enjoys cheer. They will be going to NYC with the drama club this summer. It is a fairly middle class to upper class area with a strong focus on academics and college prep. There is a little more diversity than other schools in the district, I think. Good peer groups, no violence. Some typical teen issues.
Posted by a parent on 3/14/2015From the amazing staff and administrators to the caring teachers who take the time to get to know their students and actually use differentiation to allow the students to learn individually, Northern is a great place to be raising bright and capable kids.

10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSo---lots of great things about Knapp Forest--friendly staff, beautiful environment, involved parents, etc. I'm glad to be there and my daughter loves school and that is crucial to me. However, they do lack a lot of rigor as a school and rest on the fact that their students come from good families so know the 'job will get done' somewhere, if not at school. It's unfortunate though, because with a population of such high achieving students as they do have they could be doing so much more in the way of academics. They recently implemented the MAP test (NWEA) and do nothing with the results school wide. I don't see this data driving instruction, leading to intentional differentiation, or providing students with more challenging (if need be) or more remediated (if need be) work. The MAP test is a sound assessment and to not use it to the extent of the information it provides about student learning is a shame. Additionally, this is one of the most un-safe schools I've been a part of in my entire life. To be a school in the year 2017 who still doesn't have a buzzer system to let parents into the actual educational area of the school, for secretaries to not even look up when you sign in and walk into the building, for every classroom door to be wide open and unlocked at all times, for secretaries to not even call down to a teachers room to tell them that so and so is coming and were you expecting them, etc. is mind-blowing to me. So while I feel the community is safe and there are many positive aspects to the school--the element of school safety is an egregious miss on their part that probably needs to be remedied district wide.Parent Review6y ago - Collins Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageNPC is a wonderful school! I know that my children are receiving a solid, Christ-centered education! We had prior experience at a local large public school, but my oldest child was getting "lost", but not "lost" enough for assistance. We made the switch to NPC after just 1 visit to the school! Come take a tour of our school and you will see why!Other Review7y ago
