Read what parents are saying about Palmer Park Preparatory AcademyPalmer Park Prep is a wonderful school - it is 3 programs within the school currently - Montessori (Pre-K-6th grade), Traditional elementary (2nd-5th grade), and middle school (6-8th grade). The school is filled with caring staff, and kind kids. Like any DPSCD school, it's rebuilding, but the staff and community is laying a great foundation. Don't believe what you read - come by and tour, speak to parents, and see for yourself.
Posted by a parent on 10/18/2021My experience at this school was aweful. Staff and student behavior was deplorable. This school is a prime example of the failings of Detroit Public Schools.
Posted by a teacher on 3/21/2018I am not a parent or staff member but I work with this school regularly. Its not one of my favorite schools to go to because the kids are all over the place and the office staff is rude. I have seen much better DPS schools than this one but the teachers I interact with a good.
Posted by a community member on 6/7/2013I LOVE P3A!!!! Since my son has been at this school he has excelled greatly. The teachers and staff do everything in their power to make the environment friendly, fun, bully free and extremely educational. The Principle is so easy to talk to and really interacts with the parents well. She even has activities for the Honor roll children...free of charge.... to keep them motivated to do well. Last month she took them Skating and the semester before that was Lunch at McDonalds. Since attending my son has went from a 5th grade reading/comprehension level to an 8th grade level! He's currently in the 6th grade. He even tutors other student with Math and is apart of their TECH team. They also have the 21st century afterschool program, which gives children extra help with homework, some fun activites and a peer mentoring program. There's so much to do here and Im proud to be apart of P3A!

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThank you for allowing me to review the schools performance and impact on my grandsons. I must say I am impressed although I only gave a 3-star rating. I currently live in Arizona. I was visiting in town and I had the opportunity to pick my grandsons up from school. Let me be clear. I didn’t get a chance to speak with teachers or school administrators. But I was on the property. The school and property needs work (the main reason for 3-star rating). Gesu being across from U of D is a moot point when the Gesu property is so unkept. Inside there are broken water fountains in use? Unsafe and not healthy for anyone, less known 3-5 year olds. Floors are not clean. Unsafe and not healthy for anyone. I spoke to one parent who told me about one teacher who he described as a “task master”. I won’t name names because my review is not meant to be an indictment. But the parent said the teacher yells and singles out 3-5 year olds in front of the entire class. Unsafe and not healthy. Public school teachers know better than to do that to a 3-5 year old child. Then he went on to describe how the teacher did not allow the students to wear Halloween costumes although the entire school, including the principle wore a costume for Halloween. He said she is the “task master”, as if her class was a jail. From what that parent said, it sounds like a public school where teachers have a good heart but are overwhelmed by the responsibility of being a private school teacher. But like I said in the beginning I am impressed with my grandsons knowledge base. And the most important FACT is my grandsons wake up every school day EAGER to learn. For that I am grateful to the school and the staff. Thank youParent Review1y ago - Macdowell Preparatory Academy

1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThere is no behavior enforcement at this school. The students do whatever they want inside and outside of the classroom. This greatly affects ALL students in the class' ability to learn. It also greatly affects the children who are on the right track to follow the majority of the children onto the wrong track; their behavior and respect level diminishes. The children do not take their classes or school seriously and can pass with little to no effort all school year. The childrens' focus is on romance with one another rather than on learning and witnesses have told me that the teachers and staff do nothing about this focus on romance and that much of the staff and teachers actually encourage it or just look past kids kissing in the hallway or girls and boys chasing one another hitting them to flirt in the hallways. They do this when they are late for and should already be in class as well as before class time starts.Parent Review1mo ago - Robeson Academy Malcolm X Academy

1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AveragePlease do not send your child to this school. They do not care about your child’s safety! They only care about their paychecks. Since the staff are only concerned with the problem children, unfortunately, your child will be left behind. All of the honor roll children are left to defend for themselves. The principal is not worth a damn thing! Ever since Mr. Robinson have been the principal the school has declined in every shape you can possibly think of. None of the children respect him, because he talks down to them & he’s always bragging about the money he makes being in charge of the school. I can go on & on…This is a warning to our concerning parents do not send your child to this school and expect greatness! This school is only for CHILDREN WITH PROBLEMS!! They are lucky I had to give them one star, because they don’t deserve any starsParent Review1y ago - Bagley Elementary School
