Munger Elementary-Middle School

I have two children enrolled here and my experiences vary...Mcdonald elementary is excellent for preschool and kindergarten but beyond that it really falls short. My 7 year old's teacher recommended we medicate my child because he is to active. It really sounds like the teacher is completely overwhelmed and dulling down a child makes for an easier day. My child is immature and will surely outgrow his behavior, but to suggest medication as opposed to alternative teaching is highly dangerous and ineffective.

My experience at AOA was extremely disappointing. I was made to repeat a year despite having better grades than many students who passed, and the teacher told me I shouldn't be repeating. The only reason I was held back was because my mom argued with the receptionist, and they refused to give her the meeting she requested to help me move forward. I was expelled for something I admit was my fault, and when I returned the next year, they told me I couldn't come back because I was 'too old,' even though there are seniors who are older than me. This school's unfair treatment and lack of transparency are unacceptable.

This is the WORST school in the city of Detroit with the WORST Principal, Lisa Billops.

I have two children that attend and I love the teachers. This year the principal is new, due to a recent merge with Sherrill Elementary, but thus far it seems as if he is keeping things together. All of the parents are really involved and the office staff is pleasant.

My child was denied enrollment due to having a disability and the special education director not liking the type of doctor that signed her diagnosis paperwork, she also refused to take calls telling the secretary to notify me she was out of office. I would be concerned about any children enrolling with any type of disability. If a child with ADHD is not accepted here, I would definitely be cautious with children with a more severe disability or that may be non-verbal.
