Read what parents are saying about Allenwood Elementary SchoolAllenwood has great teachers who care about the students. I notice an increase in parent centered activities including the book fair, Read Across America night, parent university, field day, parent and community appreciation breakfast and other events. Students in grades K-2 have increased their reading scores on the DRA dramatically thanks to the hard work of the teachers, staff and parents.
Posted by a community member on 6/16/2018This school has taken a turn for the worst. Bullies run this school. Administration does nothing about bullying complaints. Children that need extra learning resources are ignored and passed through the system. Their only focus is passing state provided exams. There are no other children on my street attending the school because parents refuse to send their children to Allenwood. I'm currently weighing different school options.
Posted by a parent on 5/17/2017My grand daughter was recently tested after I noticed her struggling in class. The test noted her low reading level, beginner 4th grader and she will enter 6th grade September 2015. Surprising the school will not be offering any resources/services to improve her reading comprehension skills. Is this normal for PG schools? Any suggestions on want to do now? Any advocate groups in the area?
Posted by a community member on 12/17/2014Over all its a good school this new principle they have I don't like the fact that when you leave a message for her to call you as a parent of one of her students. She never return calls or Ms. Thorns isn't giving her the messages. I'm not the only parent that feels this way. I have talk to several other parents and they have said the same thing. Knowing her and talking to her I can't believe she would just blow off a parent but then again people are one thing in your face and something else behind your back. Also the fact that kids aren't able to be kids there in school 6 hours and don't have any play time at all do to a rule make by Mrs. Fagbuyi the principle. So when they come home or go off to day care they wild and all over the place because they have no out let for 6 hours and I think that is absolutely crazy I mean their kids. I really hate that Mrs. Thumb left I think the school was a lot better with her running it.
Posted by a parent on 4/2/2014I have guardianship of my 2 nieces due to emergency situations that arose in May of 2012. This will be their 1st year in this school. I was given a hard time by Ms. Stumb and the other front office staff when trying to pre-register, which is filling out paperwork with the promise of bringing back specific documents for school. I had to go through the Board of Education School & Boundaries (something like that) just to do this. I attended the school's meet & greet last night. Upon assessing the event and teachers for my 2nd and 3rd graders, I may not like this school because it is small, does not seem to offer much as far as activities (choir, band, sports, drama, etc.) are concerned, and seems unorganized. Also, the students will be switching classes, which is usually reserved for middle and high schoolers. This is their 1st year in this school. I will let you know what I have observed after the 1st grading period is over. Right now, based on my current observation. I will give them a rating of 1.

1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy child has been going this this school for 2 years now. Although the teachers are good/great, the leadership leaves a lot to be desired. The school has class dojo (an app utilized to communicate with teachers and for the administration to communicate to parents). Even with this technology the school does a very poor job communicating information like award ceremonies, concerts or any other special program happening at the school. There is no notice that comes home or communicated on class dojo. But, if there is something going on like movie night, a dance, anything that is profitable there is a notice sent home as well as multiple reminders on class dojo. I have asked questions about the lack of communication and have not gotten a good response. I consider myself an involved parent and I ask questions to gain clarity because I am not in the education field however, the administration has not met me half way. There was a lock down at the school with police on the premises and parents called to inquire and was rushed off the phone and hung up on. Parents were asking questions on class dojo and were told that it was a drill which was a complete lie. I do not trust this school's administration with my child's safety nor education. My child came to me and asked to go to another school. I have never discussed my concerns about the school with my child. This was a request made without my influence.
