Oak Hill Elementary School

I have a first grader and kindergartener. I have been nothing short of impressed. Lots of learning, the teachers really seem to care, lots is extra activities, my kids are excited to go to school every day. Couldn’t be happier.

I had three kids at SJE and each had good years and bad years. The quality of the teachers is extremely inconsistent. One year, it feels like your kid’s teacher is the best and then the next year, it’s poor instruction, poor classroom management and disorganization. There’s no social emotional curriculum and it’s sorely needed. There’s kids having all sorts of problems that go unaddressed - learning difficulties, bullying, - and it just gets ignored for years. The middle school has overcrowded classrooms (there are no lockers and full backpacks on the floor) and no electives to offer. The discipline policy is inconsistent and negative. We didn’t really connect with other families and the kids don’t have good opportunities to bond. We switched to public school and feel like it was the best move we ever made.

I appreciate the small class sizes for elementary students and the teachers are very involved!

I never thought that I would send my kids to private school but when my daughter was having trouble reading in 2nd grade and the public school, she went to was saying that she was reading above grade level, we decided to get a second opinion which confirmed our fears that our daughter was falling behind. After just one year at St. Martin's our daughter is truly reading above grade level, she is thriving socially, and through the support of St. Martin's we are watching our girl grow into a young lady. We now have all four of our kids at St. Martin's and we couldn't be happier!
