Hernwood Elementary School

I love this school! Its so amazing and the teachers are very nice! Staff will always try to help you and as long as you act good i say this is a amazing elementary school!

I wanted to wait until closer to the end of the year before I wrote a review as this is my children's first year at this school and there is always a "honeymoon phase". So I wanted to make sure it was truly going to last...and boy did it! I have nothing but good...no, GREAT things to say about this school. No school is perfect but honestly, Deer Park has FAR exceeded my expectations. The principal is friendly, the new vice-principal is caring and compassionate (and I was worried because last year's vice principal who went to another school was a gem...so I thought it would be hard to replace her, but they truly made a nice selection.) The PTA sponsors events throughout the year and parents always feel welcomed at meetings (although more should attend) and the teachers (though I cannot speak for all) are terrific. I am not going to rave here about a specific teacher that one of my children has because I want to be fair since I am sure all teachers there have their outstanding qualities, but I have rarely seen a teacher go out of her way as she does. She is a credit to her profession and I keep thanking my lucky stars we got her. Deer Park is a well kept secret...definitely deserving of 5 stars.

Cons: Tons of behavioral problems with students, fights in the cafeteria every day, tons of bullying, and too many inexperienced teachers with no control of classrooms. Consider a private school: Arlington Baptist or Sacred Heart. Do your child and family a favor. Do not enroll your children at New Town ES.

This school/open room is lacking structure and organization. Their staff is lazy and unprofessional. They give parents a calendar of activities that never occur. The teacher Ms. Carla, enjoys arguing with paying parents and has an off-putting attitude. The director collected money for the books and never purchased them.

I pulled my child from the school because each time I had a concern about something the administrators seemed to be dismissive and also didn’t pay attention. My daughter bought up a concern about a para that worked there and not only did they not ask my child what happened but NEVER properly addressed the issue.Secondly for them to walk children in a large group across a very busy intersection is dangerous, even if there’s crossing guards there. Dismissal is a circus. I wasn’t impressed by the school and I DO NOT recommend it
