Read what parents are saying about Catonsville Middle SchoolPrincipal and administration did nothing when me or my friends faced homophobic attacks and said it was our fault. Even if you are not lgbtq you still should not sent your kid to a school where they allow this behavior
Posted by a community member on 2/17/2023Oh god, I ALWAYS want to call out because of the EXTREMELY hostile environment. People think violence is always the best answer, the busses are heated environment where the N-Slur, and other swear words, are thrown around about every .2 seconds, and in the building it is even worse, and I never eat in the cafeteria for this reason. Classes involve many people not caring about work, people getting in fights almost every week WITH ZERO REPERCUSSIONS (FOR ANY OF THIS!!!!) and actually pushing teachers to the limit. I can say, as an IEP requiring student though, that I feel just comfortable enough to want to keep coming back. Also, I feel like someone could physically harm me at any time, and also the course work is repetitive, and feels dated. My biggest complaint is the suspension rate is NOT EVEN CLOSE to what it should be, considering there are a LOT of slackers in my classes, and a LOT of "cool kids"(aka people who just throw around swear words and slurs like they don't mean anything) that are not cool, nor my friends. Would not recommend, if you are going to a zoned school, consider somewhere else. Note that this is being written by an 8-grader,but it seems people are rude here no matter their age or grade. This is one of the WORST schools in the COUNTY, and even the visit from the Superintendent at the start of the school year does not help, because that was (a) at the start of the year and (b) everyone knew to be on good behavior that day!!!
Posted by a student on 12/9/2022Awful, the administration does nothing to protect the children that are being abused everyday. Bullying, harassment, intimidation, hitting, stealing and cyberbullying happen everyday at CMS. Parents in the community share stories of what’s going on and how the administration can not do anything about it or they choose not to. There is also fighting every single day. It is not a safe environment. The teachers can not control the children in the classroom and on the hallways. Bullying is way out of control at Catonsville Middle School.
Posted by a parent on 10/26/2022Excellent teaching. Students are respectful, and even when they’re not, discipline is put in an ordered manner. All teachers are sweet and do their job good.

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy children have both had a wonderful experience at Hillcrest with teachers, school counselors and administrators who truly care and want your children to succeed. There have been a few issues in the past with administration, but that has been resolved. The new principal is amazing and truly believes in ensuring a great educational experience for every child. I would recommend this school to everyone.Parent Review1mo ago - Johnnycake Elementary School

The PTA is active and they help plan additional social activities for families.Parent Review7mo ago - Woodbridge Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have 1 child that has graduated and 1 currently enrolled. The program for kids with special needs is a God send, and the nursing staff is AMAZING! These are what sold me on the school for my oldest. I love the building and the facilities. I love the programs offered and the choice of sports. The school is currently growing and adding onto its offerings. The education at the school is high-mid. It's definitely better than public schools and many private schools, but compared to the private education I received, it often feels like my kids are behind. It's hard to tell if this is a school issue or if it's because the American education system is failing overall. The school is a feeder school to big name high schools, so that can be beneficial. My only issue is that while the school "celebrates diversity" on the surface and has a pretty mixed student population, the need for change and evolution is pervasive. St. Mark celebrates colonialism and definitely pushes antiquated teachings about history and religion. I would like to see St. Mark remove its focus on the colonization of America from the Manifest Destiny perspective and focus more on the effects of the creation of the US. Better yet, teach world history. The students self-segregate. I've only seen 2 non-white teachers. There's an obvious separation between the kids as they are completely aware that St. Mark takes a white-focused approach in teaching. Lastly, there are certain kids with behavioral issues that get overlooked. I've been told that there is a "special family" who can do no wrong and run the school from the parent association. It's believable as one of my kids suffered an assault from a protected kid and there were no consequences.Overall, I'm happy with the experience my children have received. It's the best option that my family has for Elementary and Middle School. My children enjoy being there, and have had better experiences there than at the other schools we tried. As long as your kid is confident and self-aware, they will be fine. We look out for each other.Parent Review8mo ago
