Leith Walk Elementary School

My child's experience at Govans Elementary has been amazing. The entire school works as a community to support the students both academically and socially/emotionally. Questions, challenges, and opportunities are all addresses in a timely manner with empathy and consideration. It's a beautiful building full of wonderful children and educators, lots of resources, and a caring community of parents.

Teachers here seem to think its a fashion show :) on the other side I had good experiences with my child teacher although for some reason I didn't meet all of them just the 1st teacher they see through the day .I do feel they share to many things with there students such as pregnancy related things I understand the excitement but some things I do not want my child to start wanting to be more curious about before the maturity is set in also such as what they do on there personal time etc while I do see that they trying to build a relationship with the students what about the parents because they are the one trusting you with there children during the day I only met one teacher out of 4/5 .I do take some accountability for missing back to school night but I'm sure I wasn't the only parent to do so I attended parent chaperone training's and still only met one . During bad weather they take a little long making it safe for the children to enter safely though I did see pictures on dojo they would show them in front of it during some removal. Did'nt receive much help with children mental health services not sure if this the only school that doesn't but the prior school my child attended was giving help with community resources etc..

This school lacks effective leadership. The individuals that work there are out of touch with reality. Staff members has an issue with the way they communicate effectively with the children. Yelling at someone’s child is wild to me but I’m that parent that’s not going for none of that. Staff members are to lead by example, help shape the kids for the future not yell and deprive them of fun activities when children need that time to debrief. There needs to be new staff in office and throughout. My child will not be returning there for the new school year. One year was enough for me and my baby girl. Yorkwood did not exceed my expectations. No, I don’t recommend this school to any parent who wants the best most effective learning experience for their child(ren).

Horrible experience they allow bullying some of the teachers are unprofessional one called my son a dude this one lil boy spit on my son and they continued to let this lil boy mess with my son they pick n choose who they think telling the truth or who’s at fault they definitely did not have my sons best interest at heart they did not have his back at all just continued to let kids bully him then when he finally fought back now he’s the problem but when my son came home with a busted lip they said it was confidential they couldn’t tell me wat will be the consequences for this lil boy busted my son lip it’s definitely a 0/10 for me

This school should really be shutdown! They can’t keep a principal or teachers at this school. The administration has no idea what they are doing. The children there are being verbally and emotionally abused by the staff.They are being bullied by other children and the administration ignores all of our concerns. This year teachers and few administrator staff have quit and walked off the job. I would not send my child here.

This school is an absolute disgrace and has shown us that not only are the teachers and leadership unprepared to truly care for or educate children, but the facility itself is outdated, dirty, and starved of resources. Walking inside feels like stepping back into the 1970s — peeling paint, old equipment, and a clear lack of investment into the learning environment. It’s obvious money is not being put into this school, and the children are the ones suffering for it. Our 6-year-old has been bullied daily by multiple classmates — pinched, hit, called names, and even had food thrown on him — and instead of taking accountability, the school’s response was to brush our concerns aside or flip the blame back onto him. Our 4-year-old had his hand slammed in the door twice in one week, came home in clothes we didn’t send him in, had his belongings repeatedly go missing, and even told us that his teacher puts him in the corner as punishment, which no parent was ever informed of. The “smiley face/sad face” daily reports they send home are meaningless, often showing 15+ sad faces with no explanation, yet the one time a substitute was there his chart was full of smiles, proving the problem isn’t the child, it’s the teacher. Leadership is no better: the charter manager literally conducted a meeting with us while driving, phone cutting in and out, asking us to repeat information we had already laid out in detailed emails, while her assistant sat on camera with a nasty, uninterested look, cutting us off any time we tried to speak. It was one of the most unprofessional, embarrassing displays we’ve ever experienced from supposed “leaders.” The entire system here feels dismissive, chaotic, and outdated — the school is not safe, not modern, and not built to support children in 2025. We’ve already pulled our 4-year-old out permanently, and if the bullying of our 6-year-old continues, we’ll pull him too and make sure every parent, every attorney, and every news outlet hears the truth about what goes on in this school.
