Read what parents are saying about St. John's Preparatory SchoolWonderful experience that goes by way too fast. As a parent you always are evaluating options for your child's education. You can always find something you don't like about a school or would change etc. Our experience at St Johns has been exceptional! They have done everything first class. They continuously communicate and strive to do what is right on every level, they sincerely care about the whole student and making sure everyone has a success story. Like anything, the opportunity is here, it is what you make of it. I would highly recommend this High School.
Posted by a parent on 9/11/2018I am a student who originally started at Andover High School and I have to say the change was baffling. I hated St. John's with a passion, I missed my friends and knew a maximum of 5 people of whom I rarely talked to. But the first kid I met is now my best friend, there was no girl drama to deal with (sorry ladies - *and for those worried about meeting girls, you'll still have your chance, just be active and join a club or try fencing or something. You'll meet new people as you participate*), and personally I saw very little bullying. There was an instance of hazing that I myself as a member of said community shut down and I feel any other student of St. John's would do the same and will continue to do the same. Yes the courses can be difficult, yes you can get difficult teachers, but every one of those teachers cared about me and my grades in their class as long as I showed them respect. I'm just glad there were so many teachers there with their own personalities who actually cared (this coming from a student who experienced the teachers on strike at AHS). I came into St. John's despising it, and I graduated wishing I never had to leave. Sincerely, A rotten child turned good
Posted by a student on 1/22/2015I find many of these other "reviews" to be from what appear to be academically exceptional students arrogantly belittling lower level classes, and portraying themselves as "above" this school--and from kids obviously frustrated with their lack of a good experience (which stems from their own refusal to "buy in to" The Prep). Having gone through public school up until high school, and having MANY friends in public high schools, AND other prep schools (in addition to the fact both of my parents are teachers), it is incredibly easy and obvious to say that the prep's academics are FAR superior to many surrounding schools--even the lower level classes are demanding, and equivalent to "honors" level courses at many public schools. The student body is diverse, accepting, and full of genuine, nice kids. Granted, there will always be a handful of mean kids wherever you go, but at St. John's the prevalence is significantly lower. The Prep has changed my life, and my four years have been the best four years ever spent in school. They talk of a brotherhood--it's true. If you have an open mind and accept The Prep for what it is, you will have an amazing experience. I highly suggest St. John's!
Posted by a student on 2/3/2013I love reading these reviews. You can tell between the people who "get it" and those that don't. I especially love the negative rating from the parent who doesn't like SJP because his/her son's heavy backpack full of his textbooks created a limp when he walked. Any graduate who attended SJP and worked hard will tell you that they love the school. To all those people who think St. John's is hard: You're right. The school pushes all of its students to the limits of what they think they are capable of, so that new and higher standards can be set. I went to a top 25 school, and I can tell you that at times, I struggled mightily at St. John's, but the lessons I learned from those struggles are invaluable to me.
