Florida Avenue Elementary School

Communication and parent engagement is essentially nil. Very little comes home to the parents, short of things directly involving the school, such as surveys on how great the school is, or the importance of Leap to make their scores look great. Little study material is sent home, and if a parent is lucky, they'll learn about extracurriculars. This used to be a great school.

Horrible school. I would not send my children there!

This school has benefited our kids and family so much. We love it!

My son, Clifton, spent one year at Saint Margaret Mary School, and it was an unforgettable experience. From day one, the school embraced him as if he’d been a part of the community for years. The principal, Josh St. Cyr, and his dedicated staff create a warm, family-oriented environment where every child is valued. Key highlights include:Welcoming Community: Clifton was immediately made to feel at home, fostering a sense of belonging.Exceptional Leadership: Principal Josh St. Cyr leads with care, ensuring every student feels like part of the family.Supportive Staff: The teachers and staff go above and beyond to nurture students’ growth.Christ-Centered Values: The school’s focus on faith and community aligns with its mission to shape compassionate individuals.

My experience with Abney Early Childhood was extremely disappointing and frustrating. My son has ADHD and instead of receiving patience, support, and understanding, I often felt blamed and judged. I received a phone call from the coach where I was yelled at and told how “terrible” my own son was, which was completely unprofessional and hurtful. There was also an incident where his teacher clearly wasn’t watching him because I had to come get him and take him to the emergency room because he had a bead up his nose. This could’ve caused serious injuries to my son. They sent him home almost every single day rather than working with him or using appropriate behavior strategies. I also had a very difficult time getting his IEP accommodations respected and followed. Instead of creating an inclusive environment, it often felt like they saw my child as a problem. His bus aide was very disrespectful and complained about his behavior to me as if he could help it. VERY unprofessional and just rude. I honestly feel that my son was discriminated against because of his disability. What hurt the most was seeing him constantly left out of activities and programs. No child should feel excluded, especially one who needs extra support. Families with children who have ADHD or special needs deserve compassion, communication, and proper services—not judgment and exclusion. I would not recommend this school based on my experience.
