St. Stephen School

I was a student at Benjamin Franklin. I started at this school when I was in Pre-K, and I am now in the 9th grade at Lusher School. When I attended this school before Hurricane Katrina it was a magnet school meaning you had to take a test. After Katrina the school was obliged to allow any student in without taking a test. The teachers at Benjamin Franklin do not care about the child's education, they do not have a great disciplinary system at all and they just student do whatever they choose at this school. That is why I decided to leave for 8th grade at Lusher School. I will say that the only good thing about Benjamin Franklin is that it goes from Pre-K to 8th grade. I f you want your child to go to an extraordinary school send them to Lusher Charter School.

Administration is a mess overall. Emails go unanswered unless you really, really push. Negligent safety standards and maintenance. My child is doing great but I’m ready to see what else is out there. Too much negative stuff going on at Ecole Bilingue and no one seems to want to make changes. Very frustrating.

The school is horrible. The girls are mean and the administration does not care about the students. I was harassed by the principal, Julie Boyd, until I left. The girls do not accept new students and hate people who are different. The culture is money, the girls will only accept you if you can afford the current designer bag or dress. Parents pay to get their children out of trouble.

StG is a warm and caring place that is filled with educators who care deeply about the children they work with. My daughter is in 8th grade and has had the most wonderful educators from Kindergarten through 8th grade. The faculty and staff know her as an individual and challenge her academically. No school is perfect, but StG will always have a special place in our hearts. If you are looking for a smaller environment where your child won't get lost in a big ocean, this is the place for them. It's a hidden gem in New Orleans.

unorganized, rookie teachers and no progress towards improving the shortcomings

I was an employee there for a couple of months. After I resigned and returned to my classroom to get my belongings, many of them were not there. VERY DISTURBING! Either an employee/s of that school took the items they wanted, administration discarded my items, or administration allowed others in the classroom without establishing proper protocol. It's appalling that staff members would intentionally take things that don't belong to them, yet it's just as appalling that administrators do not have a code-of-conduct in place to (hopefully) prevent such mishandlings. After making this known to administration, the lackadaisical response was "No one took any of your belongings to my knowledge." Despicable and I will pursue this! It's inexcusable!
