Read what parents are saying about Chalmette Elementary SchoolSchool staff doesn't know how to handle kids with disabilities and/or mental health issues. Once saw a fellow student being literally dragged down the hallway during a mental breakdown. When I went there the counselor once told me she 'didn't know how to help me' when I said I was depressed. She just sent me back to class feeling miserable the rest of the day. Special Ed teacher there was amazing though, she was amazing with the kids who had disabilities.
Posted by a community member on 8/12/2022The bullying that goes on in this school and on the bus is unreal. Nobody cares and when you make a complaint, nothing gets done. If I didn’t work, I’d homeschool. One child wiped blood on my sons shirt. There’s four in my son’s class that bully him and two of which are twice his size. People claim this is the best school around but it pales in comparison to other schools in other states. Unbelievable.

Posted by a parent on 5/3/2021I have several issues with this school staff and teachers. One of my daughters don't get the help she needs. Yes she should be able to do somethings on her own, but when she ask for help don't tell her do it by yourself and help another child. Another thing is race relations. I was at the school to pick my daughter up from school. Yes it was after 3:00, before i could ask for her another parent came up and said to one of the ladies behind the counter, can i get so and so, she said yes. So i was like good then i can ask for my child. When i asked for my child she was like you cannot check a child out after 3. The other parent had like this smirk on her face, i had to almost beg for her. I'm like WOW!! Another thing happened is when i went to pay for my girls to take pictures. I went to the office and ask for a receipt. One of the staff member said we have nothing to do with that we don't give receipts. I stood there until the principal noticed me. She said can i help you. I said i would like to pay for my daughters to take pictures, can i have a receipt. The principal was so kind and said yes you can. Many others things happen at this school that is not necessary. Some of the staff and teachers fake care. I'm not saying all of the staff is like this, but the ones that is like this you will have to answer to GOD. You should not negligent any child regardless the color of their skin, and their learning disabilities.
Posted by a parent on 4/7/2017This school has an issue with letting bullies get away with bullying! My child has been at this school since they first opened and I have had more problems with her being a victim of bullying. She is a very well behaved, shy, outgoing young lady and grade aren't an issue for her. She has been threatened, hit, and pushed around by the same children for years. I wish there was more I could do as a mother to stop this from happening but the school isn't very corropitive with trying to stop bullying.
