Read what parents are saying about R. V. Kerr Elementary SchoolMy son was recently a student at Kerr, and I have to say that my initial thoughts visiting the school was only re-enforced by the experiences my son had while there. I am of the opinion to give everything/everyone a chance, that school of thought was challenged to say the least. When you walk into the halls the odor of old urine is everywhere, this drifts into the classrooms as well. The caliber of teachers at this establishment are very low and they do not seem interested in establishing a relationship with the parents, let alone give individualized help to students who would ask it of them. There is very little, if any, policing of the classroom and this has lead to certain students being allowed free reign to do what they please, to whom they please. I don't know if that is because the teachers are afraid of the children's parents/family, or because they truly don't care; either way is negligent. The "No Child Left Behind" bill has allowed schools like this to flourish by shuttling kids through grades simply for the sake of not having to deal with them next year. There is not just physical bullying either, threats are commonplace as well. The administration of the school does not seem bothered in the least by this either. This school should have a disclaimer included on its registration papers, that way everyone who signs their little ones up for school here can be properly forewarned. For as bad as we, my child and I, have had an experience here, I know there are even more children going through these injustices. So I implore you, if you are looking for a school to send your little one to, please choose a different one. Even if you have to get an extra job and shuttle your child to a private school or use a relatives address to be able to enroll in a better school. I am thankful that we could afford private school in lieu of Kerr. Please take this review as mine and mine alone, however, I have read other reviews on here and believe that I am not the only one with these view(s) of Kerr. Have a good day and thanks for reading the entirety of my review and have a great day.
Posted by a parent on 10/28/2022Yes the school have bad smell and old but they tried to fix this issue. The teacher tried there best to give the kids best education they can have. My child is straight A's student and she loves the school and her teacher.
Posted by a parent on 6/27/2017First of all the school smells badly and is very old. Classrooms are very small and they pack them to the brim with students. My daughter went from creating lifelong friendships and all A's at her highly rated school to suicidal, below average to low grades, and constantly being bullied. Don't even try to get a transfer unless you're a minority, they won't approve it.
Posted by a parent on 6/19/2017The school smells like urine very badly. Do not expect any parent teacher conferences or homework from your child. There is zero communication with parents.

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis administration has allowed a bus driver to continue to put a special needs child in danger. They refuse to make reasonable accommodations for bus stop safety. The child has entered a major road way several times. Was dropped off by himself on the first day he rode the bus. Has been left behind twice while walking to the bus. We requested a change of bus stop just off the major road due to his needs. Was refused. Requested extra time to get to the bus. This was done for a week, then the bus doors was closed and he was left behind. This caused a serious emotional break down as well as the child trying to chase the bus down on this parkway. His mother is disabled and can not catch him. This is unacceptable and we feel his right to reasonable accommodations is being violated.Other Review1y ago - Meadowview Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBoth of my kids attend this wonderful school. My older kid has been at the school for 6.5 years and my younger kid for 1.5 years. Every teacher we've had has been knowledgeable, informative, and caring. They know and nurture each and every student, helping them move along the curriculum as they're ready. My kids thrive in the go-at-your-own-pace environment (with nudges from teachers as needed) and are absolutely on pace with or ahead of their peers at other schools. This is confirmed by the work they bring home, periodic conferences between the teachers and parents, and standardized testing results. They have a joy for learning that is hard to find in students elsewhere, and it's obvious that they really grasp the underlying concepts behind the things they are learning because everything is taught starting with physical, concrete materials before moving on to abstract ideas. As an alumni myself, I can attest that the transition from this small private school to a larger public high school was intense, but I felt prepared and empowered to interact with my teachers to make sure I got the best education possible. I was fully prepared academically for high school. I also had the self-motivation and independence to navigate the different learning environment at a public school. I played sports and made great friends in high school, keeping the small circle of friends who came to my high school from MSS.The number of parents I see at morning drop-off who were also Montessori students while I was there just goes to show how amazing this school and its community is. If you're interested in a school where your child can be their own person and truly love learning, please schedule a tour and see it for yourself. You'll be blown away.Parent Review2mo ago
