Merrydale Elementary School

Very bad school they can less about there student's. With a lazy counselor and no principal and the dean of students. Have a very nasty attitude towards the kids. They care less about the kids grades. The counselor never does have time for any meeting. If u to talk about u child grade's. Please get rid of the of these lazy grown people they only there for a paycheck nothing else

Overall I've enjoyed my experience with FHAE. I have two children there, and one that finished a few years back. Safe, engaging, love the arts programs... But more rigor and structure is needed in the upper grades (3-5). When my oldest left, there was quite an accelerated level of learning needed to keep up with the next grade at another academic magnet school. It wasn't just my child, witnessed the same from many others from FHAE.I'm personally challenging my next two to ensure they are able to transition more effectively.

Please don’t send your children to this school this school not about the kids only about money

I'm more than satisfied! I know my child is in a nurturing, structured, and safe educational environment!!! My child is a 6th-grader at MLK (been there since K-4). Based on what I know & have seen at local schools, there's no where else I'd rather my child be. I would like for MLK to add high school. One parent felt the 'school' only focused on intimidating the kids. Well, I believe they're mistaking intimidation w/DISCIPLINE. Being in the education profession, I visit other schools, talk to other educators, and see many, many students that lack discipline & respect for authority (talking back to/disrespecting teachers/principals, walking out of/skipping classes). If these students had discipline...or were 'intimidated', they wouldn't commit these behaviors. And the staff at MLK will not tolerate it (love it). Preparing the students? I know MLK follows a curriculum that's aligned w/what's required by the state of LA. Parents! You must do your part, & not put everything on the teacher. You know your child's strengths/weaknesses (the staff/parent communication is awesome), so make sure they're studying/practicing, and stop looking for someone to blame.

This was the most aweful school ever. I went here in 2000, the guys were whores and the girls were even worse. Everyone was sleeping with everyone, including the principles son's and whoever else. Over 80% of the school graduates or passes to the next grade because they slept with the people who were responsible for passing you to the next grade. This was not a college prep school.... It was a prostitution/high teenage pregnancy program. I would have never recommended this school to any child that wanted anything out of life.
