Posted by a parent on 5/9/2022The community is so great and fun and can really give you a memorable high school experience. Education is good because I'm in the gifted program, but traditional is lacking in the education department due to funding issues. A really great environment with great staff and students!
Posted by a community member on 8/3/2016I am currently a junior at McKinley high school and so far I have had an excellent high school experience in the GT program. The teachers are not only experienced and effective, but friendly and approachable. The class sizes are great and you become close with your classmates not only in your grade and program, but with everyone. I was surprised at how approachable everyone was when I was a freshmen. I soon was able to call McKinley my family and experience what school spirit and unity meant. The principal, Armond Brown, is a great man who not only cares about the school, but genuinely takes his time to help students and parents. McKinley has great school spirit and football games are always a blast. My only complaint lies within the office. They can be quite unorganized and make things difficult at times, which is why I rate McKinley a 4 out of 5. Despite this, I wouldn't trade my experience at McK high for any other high school. Go panthers!

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageFair experience. Child has been there since Kindergarten. Unfortunately, he's been dropped. I don't feel as if he has learned anything this past school year and 4th grade is a grade that really matters (the others do as well). He passed all standardized tests presented to him and did exceptionally well, even the one they give at the beginning of the school year. There are extracurricular activities available for students to participate in : music, drama and other clubs that meet maybe once a week/month. School would be GREAT if regular education kids received more focus. I don't feel as if my child is adequately prepared for 5th grade. I've had to do more this summer with teaching than I've ever had to. But what about the other kids who don't have or can't get that extra assistance?Parent Review4y ago - The Dufrocq School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis is my first time having a bad experience w schools although my son is in kindergarten. First and foremost when first moving into the neighborhood I called to see if this was the proper school for him to attend the office secretary is definitely rude she didn’t want to give me any information barely wanted to talk and rushed me off of the phone saying just come into the school w what I have and talk to the principal because I didn’t have a second form of residency although I had my lease and everything thing else that is needed I dislike how rude the staff can be especially front office personnel as well as women greeting you at the door in the morning when dropping kids off to school, I’ve been told I’m not able to come into the school upon dropping my son off at school in the mornings in which this is a new (larger) school than he is used to as well as a new area for my son so if walking him into school to insure his safety and calming him emotionally to help him feel comfortable that’s what I’m going to do as a parent I don’t linger around I understand this is a school other parents are dropping off as well as he needs to get to class on time my overall experience is ok after you get passed the rudeness of some of the personnelParent Review5mo ago - Polk Elementary School

10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMany of the teachers are great, but many are also bullies. They label certain children and treat them according to the labels. They gossip about students and parents, then retaliate when parents raise concerns. The administration has failed to communicate effectively with parents about serious issues. The teachers are stressed out and have gone rogue. The schools culture is toxic and depressing. Teachers have been heard yelling at the children and saying inappropriate things to students. Students with disabilities are often denied their rights to a Free and Equitable Public Education, as required by law. Great opportunity for the children, but it comes with a cost to pay emotionally.Parent Review1y ago - Baton Rouge Visual And Performing Arts Center

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy experience with this school, being an educator myself I understand the struggles that face teachers. But this institution does not even trying to assist students that are struggling… For a student to come there gifted and from a school where they were thriving to a place where the focus is not on academics. And struggle and got NO assistants is just unexceptionable…You can be failing and still participate in extra curricular activity is amazing to me. Then they have these para professionals posing as teachers. Who are condescending. They break the spirit of theses children because they don’t fit in to their status quo! I know everyone experiences are different this was my family’s… like one parent said worst decision ever!! So good luck!Parent Review8mo ago - Charity Christian Academy
