Read what parents are saying about Northview Elementary SchoolOur bilingual daughter went to NV Elementary for two years (yr1 and yr2). We moved houses and had to change schools but we were really happy with this school. The school is really supportive and deals with any issues promptly. Our daughter had an amazing art teacher. She adored Mrs Kellogg (year 1 teacher) who retired 2 years ago, in grade 2 she had Mrs Post who was very supportive and kind. The headteacher also seems to be very professional. Overall we were really happy with this school.
Posted by a parent on 10/16/2016I feel there are some very good teachers at Northview. Our kindergarten year was great! But, first grade has been a struggle. His teacher had an awful system of rules which the 5th rule was keep your teacher happy. Plus, my son was very rarely pushed to excel because he was ahead, more like he was held back all year. Plus, the communication from the school was very limited about school event, like they don't really want parents involved. And, the office staff isn't very welcoming either. Principle is friendly and tries to be helpful but doesn't seem to have much control over her staff or teachers.
Posted by a parent on 6/1/2016My children both attended Northview elementary in 2011, and I was not impressed. The teachers here constantly complain about the kids and seem as if they hate their jobs. From 2012-2014 we lived in Colorado and were fortunate to attend an amazing school. My son has speech issues, and the school in Colorado jumped at the chance to help him when I reached out. My son made leaps and bounds in Colorado. Now, we are back at Northview and there are no resources. I am finding outside assistance for speech therapy for my son. I wish others would leave reviews as well....I am not alone! The teachers and staff here are basically unwilling to work with children, period. They automatically accuse your child of having ADHD and recommend that you put them on medication. I expressed to the teachers that as parents we prefer a natural approach, and have discussed the possibility of ADHD with our pediatrician and it is unfounded. I am saying this as a parent who's child has NEVER been in trouble at school because of behavior. He simply has issues with speech. The office staff here is an embarrassment. They talk badly about parents and children they have labeled as "problem children" and they do it in front of other students. When I walk into the office, the staff is typically playing on their facebook page, and won't even look up until you ask. I am doing everything I can to get into a different elementary school next year. My children deserve better.
Posted by a parent on 2/25/2016We moved to Manhattan February 2014. I think any parent would be concerned about the transition, but it was flawless! She had a wonderful 3rd grad teacher and a fantastic 4th grade teacher. Her teachers know how to motivate her. They are very interested and involved in her life and education. Her teacher noticed that she was slacking in an area she is very talented in and pushed her to excel in a very positive and effective way. My daughter has always hated PE (not very coordinated) but even their PE program has her talking about all kinds of new and different things they are doing that interest her. Way better than anything I ever had as a kid.
Posted by a parent on 2/27/2015I had heard bad things about this school when we moved back to the Manhattan area. My daughter has now attended school there for three years and we have had three FABULOUS teachers! Yes, there is some student drama but I think that would be any school. My daughter went from struggling in reading and math to then scoring over 90% on the state assessments this last year. That is thanks to three wonderful teachers (Shepek, Duckworth and Clark) who brought her up to where she should be and beyond.

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur experience with Lee for the multiple years we were varied from year to year. There are some excellent teachers there and there are some horrible teachers there. We got our taste of both. One teacher seemed more focused on medicating our child than teaching our child and also favored one parent over the other - that was the horrible one. Other teachers were excellent and focused on encouraging our child and propelling our child to excel. As far as the staff goes - it is hit and miss. Some are fantastic and some leave you wondering how they managed to be qualified for their job. If you are a blended family, I would avoid this school at all costs. They are not prepared or equipped to provide a non-biased interest for your kids. We experienced staff members telling us they were "on our side" and staff members making it clear they were not. I suppose if you do not have any drama with any exes this school would be an okay school. My take from it is that they don't quite have their stuff together to handle any dynamic other than your ideal American family.Parent Review8y ago - Marlatt Elementary School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school has a very active PTO that always strives to get families connected at school. Funds raised at events go directly back to school events and items. Staff are personable and make a great team. Lots of large windows and vaulted ceilings in all the classrooms make the rooms seem more open and bright. Recently updated playground equipment. My daughter went to this school from Kinder thru 6th grade (before they moved 6th grade to the middle schools) and loved it. Easy to walk or bike to school.Parent Review7mo ago - Theo Roosevelt Elementary School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThey were beyond accommodating of my sons anxiety daily, helping him feel comfortable and confident. When my youngest started we were concerned about her celiac disease and how that would be accommodated safely but both the nurse and her teacher went above and beyond. I’m so thankful for the staff!Parent Review8mo ago - Bluemont Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBluemont was an amazing experience for our child. The principal really cares about the staff and students and works with the parents to address any issues that may arise. We transferred into Bluemont from a much larger elementary school in the region, and couldn't have been happier with our experience at Bluemont. The staff is engaged and caring, creating a wonderful environment for the kids.Parent Review2y ago - Flint Hills Christian School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have a child that started her schooling there and is now in 2nd grade. The teachers have been amazing. They truly care for your child and their development and involve the parents in manner that helps bridge the gap between school rules and home life/rules. They view the school as a three legged stool: family/home life, church and the school in order to develop our children into well-rounded individuals that are ready to shine His light into the world. Being able and willing to stop and pray when there are issues that come up is incredible. I also appreciate that the teachers thus far have always opened parent-teacher conferences in prayer. The class size is smaller vs. public school so the kids get more one-on-one attention. Highly recommend!Parent Review6y ago - Manhattan Catholic School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe chose Manhattan Catholic Schools for the small class sizes and high test scores. However, we have also loved the relational aspect of the community, as well as seeing our kids develop a moral compass and leadership skills.Parent Review4y ago
