5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIf your child has any sort of disability this is not the school to go to. They are horrible to work with. The front office staff comes across as rude and very uninviting. I have never been so disappointed in a school!Parent Review12y ago3 Reviews - Pleasantview Elementary School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSwaney is a great school!! It still has a little of that "Old Derby" feel, the way things used to be, in all the good ways! I went to Swaney in the 70s and a lot of its small-town charm remains. They still tape the class rosters and "who got which teacher" on the glass a few days before school . I remember going up there and reading the results by our car's headlights. On "Meet the Teacher" night, the principal greeted all of us warmly as we entered the building. This Saturday, there is a "Rock the Block" party just as a back to school event! There will be bounce houses, a DJ, games, food trucks, and a special Glow in Dark event in the gym!! Teachers, parents, and students are down-to-earth, and just look at those test scores! I am so happy my kids go here!Other Review9y ago3 Reviews - Tanglewood Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageA child affected by ADHD or alone or with co-occurring conditions (learning difficulties, anxiety, depression, autism spectrum) is more likely to be suspended from this school than a child without those conditions. Sending one of kids home is only reliving the teacher and not focusing on him. Students sent home is allowing him to think he can leave whenever things get rough for him and not learning moment for him. Sending him home is not helping. A teacher keeps taking away a his recess as punishment OFTEN. First, kids with ADHD are the kids who need recess the most. Second, taking recess away as punishment is not effective. Taking away a child’s recess as punishment is detrimental to students. Play and recess have value. No, I wouldn't recommend this school.Parent Review3y ago6 Reviews - Faith Lutheran School

NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy husband and I have four children who attend Faith Lutheran School, from Preschool to 3rd grade. We were very nervous before enrolling our children. We have a son who is on the Autism spectrum, and I knew he was going to struggle with the change and adjusting to the routine. The teachers, Mrs. Voss, Mrs. Doesken, and Mrs. Cervini, have been so understanding and patient with him. We have seen a great amount of improvement in his behavior throughout the year, and he is receiving special services from the Derby district at the Faith Lutheran School campus. My other children are also doing well. My 1st-grade son is doing mostly 2nd-grade work and has made close friendships; he enjoys music class and art. Both Mr. Wisener, for music, and Mrs. Holt, for art, are wonderful! My 3rd-grade daughter is thriving; she enjoys Latin and novel studies. My Preschooler is well-cared for and has learned how to behave in a classroom. She wants to be at school every day of the week like her siblings! I like that every day begins with a Bible devotion and prayer. I think this is so important. I am so happy that the kids are learning about Jesus every day and are being taught how to live for Him. My favorite parts about the curriculum are the choices of literature, the novel studies, and the strong foundation in phonics. I am glad that we get to be so involved in our children's education and have open communication with the teachers. Thank you, Faith Lutheran School!Parent Review2y ago10 Reviews - St Mary Parish Catholic School
