Ark City Christian Academy

I was a student here for 3 years, my sophomore through my senior year. The high school teachers are wonderful. They're great at teaching their respective subjects and because of the small class sizes are able to develope a teaching style on a personal level. The students are also, for the most part, wonderful. I felt like I was part of a big family where 99% of the time we all got along, and thoroughly enjoyed our time. However, ACCA's glaring issue is the rest of the faculty. I can't speak for the teachers of the younger students (up to 5th or 6th grade), but the 7th and 8th grade teacher has treated their students in a way that is so obviously not Christian. This school has lost families to public schools for years because of how the school board and faculty respond to simple issues. Gossip and deceit is rampant through the school system, including its leaders. Discounts for early registration are not granted to most families if they miss the deadline. But if you're related to the head people then you receive the discount way past the deadline. The school board is set in its ways, and if you disagree with how things are run good luck to you. The school is hypocritical in its Christian authenticity, and often times reacts horribly to situations, sometimes said situations shouldn't even involve the school itself. If you need to take your child out of school for an emergency, you're "Breaking the rules" because you must go to the principle personally to allow your child to leave the school during class hours. There are no A.P. classes available to students, and the ciriculum that is taught doesn't prepare you for college. I speak this from personal experience as I have just finished time taking classes at Cowley County Community College. There are few opportunities to go out and learn hands on. i.e. No field trips for highschool students. Detentions are handed out for the simplest of things. As a friend of mine was threatened with a detention for wearing plaid cargo shorts during his first month at the school. ACCA does do some things right, and I am very appreciative of that. Some of the teachers are so invested in their student that often times they can act as very encouraging school counselors. I know many times where I went to my Literature teacher to cry and talk about things. ACCA will grow your social skills, whether you like it or not.

This school is amazing. Both of our children attend school at ACCA and they love going to school there. They have small class sizes, a great sports programs and they teach from the bible!!!

We have three kids at ACCA. We love it. They have a good Christian atmosphere, small classes and lots of sports teams.
