My children have just completed their second year in ZCS schools (one at ZMS and one at the high school). We moved to Zionsville in June 2014 from another state and my children had never moved before. We have found the community and the school system to be very welcoming. My children immediately plugged themselves in to sports and other clubs and have had no problems finding their place. The academics are rigorous and challenging upholding their reputation for being the 2nd best school system in Indiana! There are issues, as there are at any school system in the US, but if your child does not gravitate toward trouble then there shouldn't be any. For the parents who feel they were not welcomed, you must put yourself out there and get involved to feel a part of a community. You can't just wait to be invited! I feel that our move to Zionsville/ZCS was great decision for our children and entire family.

(although she puts in a good effort) and I know in my heart of hearts that we will need to move her after this year, because the school does not serve the "average" or the bubble student well. Class sizes are large and growing every year. Course work is hard - much harder than your average high school. The "average" student here would be honors at most Indiana HS, so the true average students are now treated as the dumb kids. Teachers do not have the time to work with or even check on students who are struggling. You either "get it" or you don't. Teachers recommend private tutors to help- but not everyone can afford $40 hour for tutoring, although many can and that puts disadvantaged students at even more of a disadvantage. Many of their core teachers are also coaches and are running to sporting events after school and are not available for questions or extra help. The school district is not well-funded by the state - I believe it is the lowest funded district in the state, so I don't expect class sizes to shrink any time soon - I just hope they stop growing!
