The Independence Academy of Indiana

Two of my cousins have attended Independence Academy of Indianapolis. I have watched them flourish since they started in 2008. They both have graduated, gone to college and will be moving into their own separate apartments next year. This wouldn't have been possible had it not been for this school and their staff.I attended the end of year talent show. Upon arriving at the school I noticed that everyone was so happy. The students were greeting the staff joyfully and with excitement. The talent show was amazing. There was a wide variety of acts. All of the students supported each other. There was a person who got stage fright and started crying. She left the stage. Some of the kids went back to support her. She came back on stage and every kid was thrilled, clapping and genuinely happy for her. It was beautiful. I will never forget the feeling of love and kindness that came across from the first step into the Independence Academy of Indianapolis.

IA is an amazing school with top notch faculty. This school offers a diploma track curriculum with the necessary supports to achieve this. The students excel and most importantly develop friendships and self-confidence.

I am proud to see the Independence Academy (IA) grow and develop into a truly excellent school, which focuses solely on the needs of autistic students who wish to earn a high school diploma. IA offers so much more than an appropriate academic education that supports students to be successful. The faculty also focus on the whole student, teaching critical life and social skills, using best practices throughout the day. IA has partnered with key area agencies and Ivy Tech to offer dual-credit for its Step-Into-College students, internships to its high-school juniors and seniors, and hands-on, multi-sensory approaches to learning both in its school-wide curricula and after-school clubs. IA remains a supportive place, where students and their families make important friendships and develop the confidence and skills to transition to young adulthood. It's exciting and rewarding to see what students are capable of when given the right support!

Independence Academy opened new doors into the future for our children and community. The open environment is absolutely beautiful and welcoming for all that cross the threshold. We opened our eyes into the journey forward with endless possibilities. I couldn't be more proud!

My son graduated in 2021 from the Independence Academy. By the time he graduated he had made real friends that he still meets with regularly. I greatly appreciate all the time, kindness and patience shown to him. Although he graduated before the new facility opened, I have seen it and it is wonderful.
