Read what parents are saying about Joan Martin Elementary SchoolI have two children at this school and we are going on our third year at the Hobart school system. This elementary school has been the best with helping my kids thrive.
Posted by a parent on 6/13/2022It was good until my daughter was diagnosed with a learning disability. After that, she was treated differently and was even bullied by the teacher and principal. Horrible. Would never send my kids back. Relocated to a way better school district.
Posted by a parent on 7/20/2020I love this school! My son was very shy and struggles with learning at times. Each teacher has worked hard to help find what assistance my son needed! The teachers and staff are always willing to go above and beyond for their students!
Posted by a parent on 7/13/2020My son moved from Illinois to this school. It is his 2nd and probably last year at Joan Martin. The principle comes off very bubbly.. however the school and teachers are not trained properly. They do not deal with anything they have to put effort into. If a child has any troubles with anything, they throw them out of the class. They are completely confused on how to deal with a child with learning disabilities. And do not follow 504 plans. My son was a confident student who loved school until he went to Joan Martin. He’s beaten down to believe he’s a horrible child Bc he doesn’t finish his work on time. I left a review and they found out.. and the next day my son was suspended. (Another child was picking on him and put their hands on him.. he fought back. He was suspended.. the other child was sent back to class..) So I agree with the person who said they will pick on your child when you decide to speak up. I’d get a call almost every single day and they’d blame my child for every situation. My son has asked to be homed schooled, and says he wants to kill himself! A 3rd grader!!!!! Stay away!!!! Save your child’s happiness and mental health. Spend the extra money to send them somewhere else. This has ruined my child’s academic record. He WAS NEVER treated this way and we NEVER had this experience at his other school which was the SOUTHSIDE of Chicago. We moved for a better life and a better school. All this has done is destroyed my child mentally and put him completely behind. Unless your child is completely perfect, does not talk, and learns things the 1st time shown..they will not thrive here.
Posted by a parent on 2/22/2020I cannot say enough good things about JM! My third grader has had excellent teachers every year!

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe principle seemed nice but only sat down or talked to her one time and that was when they said my son would be repeated. I had thought I had good communication with his teacher should would always respond to my email very quickly ! Although she did not listen . He struggled in the begging but towards the end was catching on but yet said he would be repeated then all his homework came back marked correct but answers were wrong ! Oh and my son never had bad behavior and the teacher lied infront of the principle saying my son likes to copy and she has been telling me all year and never not once did I hear not read before that very moment ! !!!They gave up the second she said she thought he was not ready fist grade. My son never did preschool and was reading at A-B level they want him at a D??? I saw what the first hand what the first graders were doing this year and I believe he would do fine. They told me there was no way around this ! My kid will get a new teacher the 2nd time around bc the one we had treated him like a baby and was very unorganized in everything I witness. Hopefully next year goes better since I will have to deal with them again a couple of years for my younger one ! Do research ob your teacher you will be shocked !Parent Review8y ago - St Bridget School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSt Bridget was once a Prek-8 school but do to funding they had to close down the k-8 program. However! They still have pre-school for ages 3-5. Both my son & daughter have attended the pre-school for 2 years each. I chose St Bridget simply because of the small classroom size, 3 dedicated teachers who spend alot of 1 on 1 time with each child and finally because they are one of the only schools in town that offer fullday pre-school. They even have a morning care program that starts at 7am and an after-school program that runs until 5pm. My children would not be the dynacmic learners they are today, if it wasn't for Ms. Miller, Mrs. Anztack, and Mrs. Moreno. If you are looking to take your pre-preschoolers educations to another level and ensure that they do not have any obstacles entering elementary school, then I would tell you, your only option is St Bridget. Because they can accomplish everything your child needs.Parent Review9y ago - Montessori Academy In The Oaks
