Brownsburg High School

My son has gone to this school for a few years now and we love this school! The environment is great, teachers are wonderful, and the students show it! Wouldn’t want my kids to go anywhere else.

Top notch school. Many students spoke multiple languages which was great.

What an incredible school environment. The administration is top-notch and know the children by name. The teachers have the kids’ best interest at heart and work hard to meet each child’s individual needs.

Completely agree about the learning difficulties/differences. My son struggles to spell words. I was told for the second time around let’s wait 3 months see if he can catch up, finally around Christmas time, I was told he was tested, then it wasn’t for another month or two his teacher told me that when tested for dyslexia it was negative.I, later found out, they didn’t actually test him, they merely preformed a “screener” for the test. I am just completely outraged and can’t believe how horribly they deal with these situations l. My son is falling behind, going into the 5th grade, and still can’t spell many simple 4-5 letter words. I also found out that my son, so that he could finish his in-class schoolwork, would go to the teacher and tell her what he wanted the response/answer to say, and return, his teacher had to write out many of his answers, in which, he would just copy onto the school work. They also do this whole no homework thing which is setting all and every kid up for failure, In Theory, yes it’s extremely nice for the kids to not have any homework, but if your child is struggling, there is no way for you to help them, because all school work is done in class. Homework is essential!, this is how children learn how to study, coping mechanisms, time management, etc… When children do homework they are independently challenging themselves and skill building, and figuring out which learning methods work best for them. Anyways it’s such a delay in care and extremely sad.

We just got redistricted to the new elementary called rossroads, but my kids were students at White Lock for several years. The teachers and staff are excellent, there’s a very engaged PTO with lots of opportunities to parents to volunteer, and I was pleased with my kids academics. Brownsburg goes beyond what most school districts do to ensure every school in the district is very well balanced based on socioeconomic status and other diversity factors. I think the model works well, although the downside is all the schools are clustered together in Brownsburg and the further away from town limits you live there is high probability of some very long bus rides.

I am rating this school as a 3 star school. In my experience the school is OK. If you are popular in the school then things go better for you. My experience in the front office is hot and cold. I have been treated nicely and sometimes rudely. It depends on which person is there. The recess ground is a joke. Kids do whatever they want and the teachers on duty are too busy talking to see what goes on. In the lunch room there are some ladies in there that act like they are drill sargents. The principal seems nice but I have heard some stories about how he treats the children. It also seems like the school right next door is better. They seem to do more and I always notice they put up decorative signs in front of the school at the end of the year. Again, I rate it 3 stars, not just because of one thing but because of many things.

If you have a special needs child - this is not the school for you, especially if you are black.I was told that my child could not attend the school as they did not have resources to meet my child's needs. They told me it will be best to redraw my child from the school.Very disappointing.
