Vernon Hills High School

Equity should not be a category in this review. This is a good school that 7 years ago was a great school. Sadly, equity and all the social emotional focus has infested this school. Fortunately, this is the “new pedagogy” that will quickly pass as it is not sustainable. New board members will be elected and we will get our academics back on track. Currently, it’s ridiculous. But it’s the same everywhere in Illinois due to our current Governor and his very progressive social agenda. This too shall pass.

Vernon Hills High is one of the best secondary schools in Illinois when it comes to providing students with several electives and subjects to allow students to pursue any dream or hobby they want. But with prestige comes a great cost, and that is discrimination, prejudice, and outright bullying. This school is known for having a very negative culture on average, with students providing little to no camaraderie with their peers, and treating people lower than dirt. This school also provides little to no support for those affected by these types of cruel acts by their peers. There is a great range between students in eternal bliss and suffering from severe depression in this school, and everyone truly only cares for themselves. Unless you know your child has a strong will and once to pursue great classes, don't apply here.

Great teachers, always ready to help kids needing it. Small school (compared to Adlai Stevenson) setup really helped my kid.

Beautiful school, amazing teachers, and amazing programs! Especially girls basketball and the band! I loved going here!
