If you have a perfect and well rounded kid, they will do well at this school. If you have a child who needs additional support, this is not hte place for your child. The administration is predominately white. The students are predominately African American. The only African American teacher is the kindergarten teacher and gym the teacher. Many teachers don't know how to relate to African American students, especially the boys. The way they handle discipline is not equal. Some students are punished while others get a slap on the wrist. There was one male African American assistant principal or dean but he left after two years, and without notice. The principal is not responsive and avoids confrontation. Again, with a student body of predominately African Americans, there are not enough African Americans in adminstrative/faculty roles. Curriculum is solid and your child will get an excellent education if you fall in line and play by the rules. If you require special needs or assistance or would like your child to have a positve role model to interact with on a daily bases, look somewhere else. Lastly it's a little pricey, they do offer financial aid, but the school does not have an HVAC system, so if you have a child with asthma, hot chicago months will be a challenge. There are window a/c in the classrooms but the halls and rest rooms are not cooled and some of the window unites recycle outdoor air which during extremely hot and humid months is not the best air to recycle.

I had a terrible experience at Calvin Christian School. My family was judged harshly prior to admission. We decided to withdraw our application because we felt our child would not be safe at this school.

Poorly. The children for the most part are a joy but there are a few known bad apples in the bunch. The principal himself refuses to do anything about the bullying situation except victimize the victims. The overall feel is that nobody, for the most part advocates for the children. Instead of an air of guidance and understanding there is a heavy cloud of punishment in the air. I really question if some of the staff has taken any type of child psychology or development courses because they don't seem to know how to relate to kids. My child wants to graduate with her friends, which is the only reason we're still there, but her younger siblings will be leaving once she does. The teachers are extremely tight knit so any complaints will fall on deaf ears. It's really a shame because my kids really love their friends and a lot if the parents are really nice as well.

My daughter has attended Calvin Christian school since Kindergarten. She is now in second grade. When we started the process of looking for a school three years ago, we were quite concerned that finding an affordable one nearby that would nurture her spiritually and emotionally, develop her mind, and give her a solid educational foundation for high school and college next to impossible... that is until we found Calvin. From the moment we took the school tour, we knew that Calvin was the right fit for our child. It's small size, diverse student body, great teaching and administrative staff, strong parent involvement, and dedication to helping students grow in Christ and become global citizens that give back to the community are just some of the reasons we highly recommend this school.

The care, love, respect, honor, and atmosphere of acceptance of every gift the child may have and is celebrated. Great communication with teachers and staff. We love Calvin Christian School and we highly recommend it to any family that is looking for a caring and compassionate environment where children learn, love and respect for one another, teachers, parents and authority.
